Strengths • Great ballhandler, handles pressure well • Penetrates easily • Draws fouls, good free throw shooter • Excellent in transition • Sees floor well Weaknesses • Shot selection needs improvement • Prone to over-penetrating, gets caught under the basket • Perimeter shot is inconsistent Defense Strengths • Quick hands and feet – good on-ball defender • Good rebounder Weaknesses • Small frame – has trouble fighting through screens • Likes to gamble for steals Analysis Walker has emerged as one of the best of the pure point guards in college basketball. He has all of the skills necessary to run the point well – good ballhandler, sees the court well, good speed, nice passer. On offense, he does a good job penetrating, often settling for a little runner in the lane to score, though sometimes his speed can be too much, and he ends up overpenetrating. On defense, Walker does a great job covering the ball, and keeping opposing point guards out of the middle. He needs to work on his discipline on the defensive end where he gambles a little too often. Also, he needs to get a bit stronger, which will help him on both offense and defense. - Ed Isaacson |
