SCOUTING REPORT
Strengths: Connaughton is a true competitor at the shooting guard position. He is big enough to play forward in the NBA, and his athletic ability will make up for his lack of size at the forward position. Connaughton shoots the ball very well from any range off-the-dribble or standing still. He impressed scouts at the NBA Combine by not only scrimmaging well, but also recording an incredible 44-inch vertical jump. Connaughton is pushing his stock up high enough to the point where he is certainly in the discussion for a late second round “flyer” pick.

Weaknesses: Connaughton is one of the many prospects in the draft pool that simply don’t stand out in any category. Well, that was until he showed everyone up in the vertical jump at the combine. Still, many teams may see him as too underdeveloped as an overall player to fit on an NBA team. Connaughton’s MLB contract with the Baltimore Orioles is scaring away scouts as well. As much as he ensures that basketball comes first, the fact that he could leave at any time to play professional baseball will hinder his stock a bit.
