Round 1

Skip To Round:  1  •  2  •  3  •  4  •  5  •  6  •  7  •  Undrafted
1 Houston Blake Bortles* QB Central Florida 6' 5" 232
DraftSite's comments:Jadeveon Clowney remains a strong possibility here as a linebacker in the 3-4 set but Bortles gives the Texans the long term answer they are seeking at quarterback. There are questions about all of the top quarterbacks available but Bortles seems like the sure thing, had the best pro day and working out at the Combine helped his stock.
2 St. Louis Trade Icon Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M 6' 5" 308
DraftSite's comments:The Rams look like the most likely team to trade down and if Clowney is on the board the phones might be ringing off the hook. Greg Robinson may be the better run blocker but Matthews has the pedigree and the fact that Jeff Fisher coached his Hall of Fame father will help the push to land Matthews. Matthews is simply the best lineman available and maybe the most pro ready prospect at any position.
3 Jacksonville Jadeveon Clowney* DE South Carolina 6' 5" 266
DraftSite's comments:Without question Clowney has more talent than any other prospect in this draft. No question the Jaguars need a quarterback but they their inability to get to the quarterback and get the defense off the field hurt them even more. When your team has the fewest quarterback sacks in the NFL over the last three seasons why not get the best rushing talent available.
4 Cleveland Johnny Manziel** QB Texas A&M 6' 0" 207
DraftSite's comments:Yes, we know the Browns were one of the two teams not at Johnny Manziel's Pro Day (along with the Bears), but they have been keeping their quarterback preferences very close to the vest. The Browns haven't been seen at any quarterback Pro Days and seem to be making their decision based on the game film and private workouts. Manziel is the mobile quarterback that fits the system Kyle Shanahan will employ in Cleveland.
5 Oakland Sammy Watkins* WR Clemson 6' 1" 211
DraftSite's comments:Johnny Manziel is getting a lot of attention in Oakland but he is off the board in this scenario. The Raiders have been without a legitimate #1 option at wide receiver since it seems like the days of Tim Brown. Matt Schaub is a band-aid and not the long term solution but he is serviceable and the Raiders are interested in winning now. The wild card here could be linebacker Khalil Mack who would bring a formidable presence off the edge.
6 Atlanta Khalil Mack OLB Buffalo 6' 3" 251
DraftSite's comments:With the new 3-4 alignment Atlanta would be crazy to pass on Mack who is the perfect linebacker for this system. Greg Robinson or Jake Matthews are possibilities here or maybe even Sammy Watkins if he somehow falls past Oakland as an eventually replacement for Roddy White.
7 Tampa Bay Greg Robinson** OT Auburn 6' 5" 332
DraftSite's comments:Sammy Watkins is a target the Buccaneers would like to land and pair with Vincent Jackson. With Watkins off the board building the line seems to be the best thing they can do. Robinson looks to be the best run blocking lineman available and with Doug Martin coming back off of injury the Buccaneers feel this will help the offense get back to basics and take some pressure off of young Mike Glennon.
8 Minnesota Derek Carr QB Fresno State 6' 2" 214
DraftSite's comments:You don’t bring in a guy like Norv Turner if coaching up a young quarterback is not something you intend to do. The Christian Ponder era in Minnesota looks like it is coming to a halt. Derek Carr seems to a quarterback that will fit the system more than Teddy Bridegwater and his stock is moving in the wrong direction.
9 Buffalo Eric Ebron* TE UNC 6' 4" 250
DraftSite's comments:Even after the acquisition of Mike Williams from Tampa Bay the Bills are in need of young athletic targets for E.J. Manual. Ebron gives the Bills a top notch tight end who is an immediate receiving threat and the Bills have some bodies on the team that can help blocking.
10 Detroit Justin Gilbert CB Oklahoma State 6' 0" 202
DraftSite's comments:This is a case where the Combine may alter a pick. Darqueze Dennard looked like the pick here but Gilbert nailed it in Indianapolis and many teams took notice. Dennard is physical but he has short arms for a corner and that could be concerning, enough to push him out as the top corner off the board. We are not as high on Gilbert but there is no question this is a position of need for Detroit, although the prospects of Mike Evans to pair with Calvin Johnson if available would be frightening.
11 Tennessee Anthony Barr OLB UCLA 6' 5" 255
DraftSite's comments:Barr is a very raw and talented linebacker that is a converted running back. Extremely productive and active player who showed he could do more than just rush the passer this season.
12 NY Giants Aaron Donald DT Pittsburgh 6' 1" 285
DraftSite's comments:The Giants bread and butter over the last decade has been the ability to move pieces around a deep defensive line. Donald is an undersized and active penetrator that will work at the NFL with a team that can keep him fresh. The Giants would be a great fit but look for cornerback and wide receiver to also be some positions the team looks.
13 St. Louis Mike Evans** WR Texas A&M 6' 5" 225
DraftSite's comments:Getting a strong and physical receiver they can pair with Tavon Austin for years to come would be an outstanding find.
14 Chicago Ha Ha Clinton-Dix* S Alabama 6' 1" 208
DraftSite's comments:Any help in the secondary would be a welcomed sight for the Bears. Fans still have nightmares watching the team give up big play after big play late in 2013.
15 Pittsburgh Odell Beckham, Jr.* WR LSU 5' 11" 198
DraftSite's comments:Pittsburgh is showing a lot of interest in Beckham after losing Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders in back to back seasons. Darqueze Dennard is a physical corner that fits the Steelers style of play and nobody would be surprised if that was the direction the Steelers go.
16 Dallas Timmy Jernigan* DT Florida State 6' 2" 298
DraftSite's comments:Jernigan or Donald are the two lineman the Cowboys covet and Donald is off the board here. Jernigan is a presence that can play nearly anywhere along the line and the Cowboys have multiple holes to fill.
17 Baltimore Taylor Lewan OT Michigan 6' 7" 309
DraftSite's comments:Hard to believe Lewan would last this long but he may be available for Baltimore and you better believe if he is the Ravens will pounce.
18 NY Jets Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State 5' 11" 199
DraftSite's comments:Wide receiver or any offensive playmaker is probably the biggest need but you know Rex Ryan wants another cornerback and the Jets struck out trying to add a big name there during free agency. With only one corner off the board the Jets would look there and address the offense in later rounds.
19 Miami Zack Martin OT Notre Dame 6' 4" 308
DraftSite's comments:Martin is not as big as the prototypical tackle and his shorter arms may lead some teams to play him at guard, Miami has holes at both positions so Martin is a fit no matter where they line him up.
20 Arizona Dee Ford OLB Auburn 6' 2" 252
DraftSite's comments:There are a number of teams near the bottom of round 1 that need pass rushing help off the edge. With John Abraham turning 36 you better believe the Cardinals are one of those teams.
21 Green Bay Louis Nix* DT Notre Dame 6' 2" 331
DraftSite's comments:The Packers are in the market for a defensive tackle even though they brought B.J. Raji back for a season. Raji is not going to be a long-term answer and the Packers start to groom his replacement while he is still with the team.
22 Philadelphia Ryan Shazier* OLB Ohio State 6' 2" 230
DraftSite's comments:The Eagles have only drafted a running back in the first round 3 times in their long history. Safety looked like a huge need and that has been lessoned with the signing of Malcolm Jenkins.
23 Kansas City Brandin Cooks* WR Oregon State 5' 10" 186
DraftSite's comments:Alex Smith needs more vertical threats to be effective in this offense. Cooks is coming off a season where he caught more than 120 passes and possesses true return ability that can change the momentum of a contest.
24 Cincinnati Bradley Roby* CB Ohio State 5' 11" 190
DraftSite's comments:Dre Kirkpatrick was drafted last season and is expected to move into a starting role this year and the Bengals need to find another young corner to play with him as both starters from a season ago (Terrence Newman and Leon Hall) are over 30. Roby was an underachiever at Ohio State but he has a ton of speed and possibly the most natural talent of all the available corners.
25 San Diego Jason Verrett CB TCU 5' 9" 189
DraftSite's comments:There are some issues with the surgery he just had on his labrum but the procedure was similar to what Dee Milliner went through last season when selected by the Jets. Verrett is small in stature but a sure open field tackler and one of the fastest corners available. Can play virtually anywhere in the secondary and has the ability to be a playmaker from day 1.
26 Cleveland Trade Icon Kyle Fuller CB Virginia Tech 6' 0" 190
DraftSite's comments:With an extra first round selection there are a number of possibilities for the Browns. Here we have the Browns trying to find someone they can pair with Joe Haden long term. So many teams avoid Haden and his side of the field that finding a lockdown for the other side is very important and crucial for success.
27 New Orleans C.J. Mosley ILB Alabama 6' 2" 234
DraftSite's comments:Mosley seems to be the player on a number of short lists but doesn’t jump out to any one team. The Saints would be receiving amazing value if Mosley winds up at #27.
28 Carolina Kelvin Benjamin** WR Florida State 6' 5" 240
DraftSite's comments:The top two receivers from last season (Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell) are gone. The Panthers could spend two or three picks on receivers in this draft. If the Panthers look elsewhere in the first round I suspect it will be along the offensive line at tackle after the surprising retirement by Jordan Gross. Benjamin is built more like a tight end and would be a great fit for Cam Newton.
29 New England Jace Amaro* TE Texas Tech 6' 5" 265
DraftSite's comments:Hard to know when Rob Gronkowski will be back and the Patriots could avoid some of the questions surrounding his return if they invest in another youngster at the position.
30 San Francisco Calvin Pryor* S Louisville 5' 11" 207
DraftSite's comments:Another safety to pair with Eric Reid for years to come. Cornerback and wide receiver are needs for this team but in this scenario the value for Pryor would outweigh any selections there.
31 Denver Kony Ealy* DE Missouri 6' 4" 273
DraftSite's comments:Denver needs more pressure off the edge as Von Miller cannot handle all double teams and attention himself, not to mention he will now be coming off injury. Ealy is someone who can come in and help immediately.
32 Seattle Xavier Su'a-Filo* OG UCLA 6' 4" 307
DraftSite's comments:Seattle will benefit from strengthening the interior of the offensive line. The Seahawks need help and depth at nearly every position on the line and Su’a-Filo can play at multiple spots.
