DraftSite's comments:		Oiler's GM Steve Tambellini comes into the draft with an unprecedented third chance to draft first overall. His team would love to see that consensus number one player being a back-liner, but Nail Yakupov simply stands alone as the best player. Granted, he is not a player who will impact an NHL roster like Stamkos, Ovechkin, or even Taylor Hall did, but Yakupov will help generate offense early on. The fact remains that the Oilers would really like to plug and play a younger defender, whether he be a draftee, or someone already getting on-the-job training on another NHL team. They also would love another solid, good young goaltender. If they hadn't won the draft lottery, Everett Silvertips' Ryan Murray would be the guy in their sights. Ryan was fast-tracked to play in two exhibition games with the season NHL vets who make up the World Championship roster but injuries allowed him to play in the Worlds, a rarity the tournament has never seen! Murray didn't look out of place. It remains to be seen if the Oilers will bypass on the much higher ranked Yakupov and take Ryan Murray, or find an NHL team willing to pay in trade with a polished young defender or goaltender, AND a pick that keeps them in the early slotting to acquire one of the other promising defenders this draft boasts. (Pick possibly in play?)

DraftSite's comments:		If Yakupov is there at two, some think they will avoid drafting a Russian. After two misses on early Russian picks (Zherdev & Filatov), that may be understandable. This pick does give Columbus GM Scott Howson a bargaining chip toward plugging his weakness in goal via trade. The fact remains there are two Russian forwards that are in the mix to be drafted in the first five slottings. I don't think Columbus hesitates in selecting Ryan Murray at number two. In the World Championship practices and exhibition, he looked like an NHL defenseman, with great positioning, up-ice presence, and solid play. (Pick possibly in play?)

Compounding this selection is the "Luongo to Leafs talk" which might have the Maple Leafs having to decide just how much this young prospect adds over a quality NHL netminder, but I see the Leafs as probably trying to hold on to this pick.
