Fierce 40 - Top 40 College Football Teams - 2014 Week 14

Ranking

Team

W-L

Result

Previous

1

Alabama

11-1

W:#16 Auburn 55-44

2

Down 33-21, Alabama scores five straight touchdowns to close the game...wow. A fun game to watch but 99 total points is usually about 3 Iron Bowls worth of scoring.

2

Oregon

11-1

W:Oregon State 47-19

3

Six more touchdowns for Marcus Mariota. His decision making is second to none at the quarterback position.

3

Florida State

12-0

W:Florida 24-19

1

Florida State overcomes 4 Jameis Winston interceptions. I know they are undefeated but the way they keep squeaking by mediocre teams does not allow them to be placed ahead of Alabama or Oregon any longer.

4

TCU

10-1

W:Texas 48-10

6

One of the more impressive victories from this week's action. Texas had been playing well recently and TCU stomped them.

5

Ohio State

11-1

W:Michigan 42-28

7

Cardale Jones suddenly becomes the most scrutinized quarterback in America after the J.T. Barrett season-ending injury.

6

Baylor

10-1

W:Texas Tech 48-46

5

Sets up the big game with Kansas State. Texas Tech probably should have defeated Baylor in this contest and torched the defense for over 700 yards.

7

Kansas State

9-2

W:Kansas 51-13

9

Kansas State comes into the regular season finale against Baylor with quarterback Jake Waters playing his best football. Over the last two weeks Waters is 43-61 for 694 yards and 6 total touchdowns.

8

Wisconsin

10-2

W:#24 Minnesota 34-24

10

Got a bit of a scare from the Golden Golphers and now face a depleated Ohio State team for the Big Ten title.

9

Mississippi State

10-2

L:#18 Ole Miss 17-31

4

Both Mississippi schools had big SEC years but they wind up short of the College Football Playoff in the end.

10

Arizona

10-2

W:#13 Arizona State 42-35

15

Arizona emerges from the Pac-12 South and will face Oregon, the team that handed the Ducks their only loss this season.

11

Missouri

10-2

W:#33 Arkansas 21-14

17

Heading to the SEC title game for a second consecutive season.

12

Michigan State

10-2

W:Penn State 34-10

12

Another win and another Jeremy Langford 100-yard game in the Big Ten.

13

Georgia Tech

10-2

W:#8 Georgia 30-24 OT

19

Georgia Tech has a ton of momentum heading into the ACC title game.

14

Ole Miss

9-3

W:#4 Mississippi State 31-17

18

A win in the Egg Bowl eases some of the late season pain Ole Miss felt.

15

Georgia

9-3

L:#19 Georgia Tech 24-30 OT

8

Tough way for Georgia to lose this game as they prepare for a possible New Year's Day Bowl game.

16

UCLA

9-3

L:Stanford 10-31

10

No team was hotter coming into this week than UCLA. Yet they showed that a good team with nothing to lose like Stanford can be dangerous.

17

Auburn

8-4

L:#2 Alabama 44-55

16

Try telling Auburn that Nick Marshall would throw for 456 yards and the offense would put up 630 yards and 44 points against Alabama, and they would take it every time. Still not enough to close the deal.

18

Arizona State

9-3

L:#15 Arizona 35-42

13

Arizona State had this division locked up, but two late losses see their hard work go for naught.

19

Clemson

9-3

W:South Carolina 35-17

22

Deshaun Watson leads the Tigers to victory on a torn ACL and Clemson's first victory over South Carolina after five straight losses.

20

Oklahoma

9-3

Idle

20

Samaje Perine is probably still resting after that 427 yard rushing performance.

21

Louisville

9-3

W:Kentucky 44-40

23

Some tough sledding for this victory but Louisville gets it done.

22

Boise State

10-2

W:#30 Utah State 50-19

25

In the Mountain West title game after a career game from Jay Ajayi.

23

Marshall

11-1

L:Western Kenturcky 66-67 OT

14

The Marshall defense had not given up more then 30 points all year and they wind up losing their finale in what looked like a basketball score.

24

LSU

8-4

W:#28 Texas A&M 23-17

26

Controversy surrounds this win but it is a win for the Tigers.

25

Minnesota

8-4

L:#10 Wisconsin 24-34

24

Narrowly misses a chance to go to the Big Ten title game.

26

Nebraska

9-3

W:#34 Iowa 37-34

27

Will Bo Pelini keep his job? Not sure this game was enough for Nebraska.

27

Utah

8-4

W:Colorado 38-34

32

Utah had to claw it's way to victory here and used some timely defensive plays to do so.

28

Colorado State

10-2

L:Air Force 24-27

21

Colorado State should not let the season ending loss ruin a season that exceeded all expectations.

29

USC

8-4

W:#29 Notre Dame 49-14

31

Cody Kessler showing he belongs in the discussion for elite Pac-12 quarterbacks.

30

Memphis

9-3

W:Connecticut 41-10

35

Six consecutive wins to close the season.

Now if Duke can finally get that pesky Bowl victory that has eluded them for about 60 years.

28

Hard to believe this team was in the top 5 near the beginning of the season.

33

Cincinnati

Nice win against a Temple team that has been playing very tough at the end of the season.
