Fierce 40 - Top 40 College Football Teams - Week 7

Ranking

Team

W-L

Result

Previous

1

Ohio State

7-0

W:#39 Penn State 38-10

1

Ohio State has three more games to figure out their quarterback situation before Michigan State and Michigan. The Buckeyes are 7-0 and sit atop the rankings with three talented quarterbacks...not a bad problem to have.

2

Baylor

6-0

W:#40 West Virginia 62-38

2

Baylor is averaging just under 64 PPG on offense...insane.

3

TCU

7-0

W:Iowa State 45-21

3

TCU only scored 45 against Iowa State, snapping a streak of four consecutive games scoring at least 50 points.

4

Michigan State

7-0

W:#13 Michigan 27-23

4

Michigan State wins a game people will be talking about for the next 50 years.

5

LSU

6-0

W:#10 Florida 35-28

5

LSU is getting just enough done at the quarterback position to keep opposing defenses honest.

6

Clemson

6-0

W:Boston College 34-17

6

Clemson is famous for dropping the ball or losing what seems to be a very winable game at inopportune times. The Tigers cannot overlook Miami or NC State in the coming weeks while waiting for Florida State to come to their house.

7

Alabama

6-1

W:#11 Texas A&M 41-23

7

If all holds true this week the November 7th game against LSU could be the game of the year in college football.

8

Utah

6-0

W:#32 Arizona State 34-18

8

USC has nothing to lose so that makes them a dangerous opponent for Utah despite their recent turmoil.

9

Florida State

6-0 W:Louisville 41-21 9

Dalvin Cook Heisman talk grows louder and louder.

10

Notre Dame 6-1 W:#27 USC 41-31

12

Matchup with Temple will be a bigger test than many envisioned as the Owls defense has been fantastic.

11

Florida

6-1 L:#5 LSU 28-35

10

Can't drop Florida that far, if they defeat Georgia this week they have the inside track to make it to the SEC Championship game representing the East.

12

Stanford

5-1

W:#19 UCLA 56-35

16

If there is one college coach that could make the NFL jump right now and be successful it is David Shaw. Shaw has been masterful once again in leading the Cardinal.

13

Iowa

7-0

W:#22 Northwestern 40-10

17

Iowa remains the biggest surprise in the nation and they control their own destiny in the Big Ten West.

14

Michigan 5-2 L:#4 Michigan State 23-27 13

You can't drop Michigan in the polls over 1 play after a game where they did essentially everything they set out to do.

15

Oklahoma State

6-0

Idle

15

We are still not convinced about Oklahoma State in the Big 12 but they are making us look bad so far.

16

Memphis

6-0 W:#14 Ole Miss 37-23 20

We have been calling out Memphis for weeks and how Paxton Lynch would burst onto the scene....we already had them ranked in the top 20 before Ole Miss....you can't say we didn't warn you.

17

Texas A&M

5-1

L:#7 Alabama 23-41

11

A&M is a good team, just not up to Alabama's standards. A&M now faces an Ole Miss team that is also coming off a loss. Someone will be very disappointed come Saturday night.

18

Oklahoma

5-1

W:#35 Kansas State 55-0

18

So much for a hangover after the Texas loss.

19

Ole Miss

5-2 L:#20 Memphis 23-37 14

Speaking of the AAC, they get another big win here as Ole Miss leaves us scratching our heads again.

20

Temple

6-0

W:UCF 30-16 21

If an AAC team goes 13-0 could they make it to the playoffs? There are plenty of suitors and Temple may have the defense to back that run up.

21

Mississippi State

5-2

W:Louisiana Tech 45-20

23

5-0 against ranked opponents and 0-2 against ranked opponents tells the story for the Bulldogs.

22

Wisconsin

5-2 W:Purdue 24-7 24

No games against ranked opponents remain so Wisconsin playing their toughest games early may pay off.

23

Toledo 6-0 W:Eastern Michigan 63-20 25

Opponents have only scored 20 points on the Rockets twice this season and no more than 23 in any contest.

24

Duke 5-1 Idle 26

Thomas Sirk has done an admirable job at Duke and he continues to fly under the radar.

25

Houston

6-0

W:Tulane 42-7

33

The two toughest opponents left for Houston are Memphis and Navy and the Cougars will get both of them at home.

26

Georgia

5-2

W:Missouri 9-6

29

Not the win you wanted to see if you are a fan of offense.

27

Northwestern

5-2

L:#17 Iowa 10-40

22

After cruising to a 5-0 start the Wildcats have dropped two in a row by a combined score of 78-10...ouch.

28

Navy

4-1 Idle 30

The November 7th game at Memphis is shaping up to be a dandy.

29

Cal

5-1 Idle 31

UCLA, USC and Oregon are the next three games. Those contests don't look nearly as daunting as when the season began.

30

North Carolina

5-1 W:Wake Forest 50-14 34

Mack Hollins is suddenly looking like a legitimate playmaker at wide receiver.

31

UCLA

4-2 L:#16 Stanford 35-56 19

The injuries suffered by this team on defense are finally taking their toll.

32

Pittsburgh

5-1 W:Georgia Tech 31-28

36

Four of the five Panther wins have been by 8 or fewer points but they are wins nonetheless.

33

Texas Tech

5-2

W:Kansas 30-20

38

Texas Tech is hoping back-to-back game with Oklahoma State and Oklahoma wind up better than TCU and Baylor.

34

Utah State

4-2

W:#28 Boise State 52-26

NR

The Aggies now control their own destiny within the Mountain West.

35

BYU

5-2

W:Cincinnati 38-24

NR

The defense is stepping up and getting after the quarterback.

36

Auburn

4-2 W:Kentucky 30-27 NR

Hopefully Auburn lets Sean White quarterback this team for the rest of the season.

37

Boise State

5-2 L:Utah State 26-52 28

We were amazed Boise State even managed 26 points after turning the ball over 8 times.

38

Western Kentucky

6-1 W:North Texas 55-28 NR

Brandon Doughty can sling it with any quarterback in the NCAA.

39

Marshall

6-1

W:Florida Atlantic 33-17

NR

A year after losing Rakeem Cato it's good to see the Thundering Herd are still competitive.

40

Arizona 5-2 W:Colorado 38-31 NR

Defense will have to improve immediately if Arizona wants to get back into the thick of the Pac 12 race.

Dropped Out: USC, Arizona State, Kansas State, Washington, Penn State and West Virginia.
