Fierce 40 - Top 40 College Football Teams - Week 11

Ranking

Team

W-L

Result

Previous

1

Alabama 10-0 W:Mississippi State 51-3

1

The only one of the top 4 to avoid the upset bug was the Crimson Tide.

2

Ohio State 9-1 W:Maryland 62-3 6

Ohio State may be the highest ranked team in the Big Ten but they are likely blocked from an appearance in the Big Ten title game.  If Ohio State defeats Michigan they still need Rutgers to upset Penn State to reach the Big Ten title game.

3

Michigan 9-1 L:Iowa 13-14 2

The Wolverines still have a berth in the Big Ten Title game if they hold off the Buckeyes.

4

Clemson 9-1 L:Pittsburgh 42-43 3

The Tigers still have a path to the ACC title game and look to still be the favorites from the ACC despite the loss.

5

Louisville 9-1 W:Wake Forest 44-12 5

Best bet for Louisville to reach the College Football Playoff would be a team like Penn State winning the Big Ten or USC winning the Pac-12 and upsetting the balance of power.

6

Washington 9-1 L:#29 USC 13-26 4

A huge loss for thre Huskies as a win against USC would have most certainly earned them the #2 ranking.

7

Wisconsin 8-2 W:Illinois 48-3 7

A Statement win for the Badgers as the offense was as good as they have been all season.

8

Oklahoma 8-2 W:#26 Baylor 45-24 8

The Sooners showed offensive balance and this game wasn't all about Baker Mayfield, this makes the Sooners a dangerous team.

9

Oklahoma State 8-2 W:Texas Tech 45-44 11

If the Cowboys can win against TCU and Oklahoma they win the Big 12 but both games are on the road so it won't be easy.

10

Colorado 8-2 W:Arizona 49-24 14

Colorado remians on target for their most successful season in years.

11

Penn State 8-2 W:Indiana 45-31 19

If Ohio State can defeat Michigan it is very likely Penn State will earn a berth in the Big Ten title game.

12

Western Michigan 10-0 W:Kent State 37-21 12

Despite being undefeated Western Michigan still needs a lot to happen to reach the College Football Playoff but they have nearly stamped their ticket to a BCS bowl birth.

Utah 8-2 W:Arizona State 49-26 17

Big win for Utah to stay alive for the Pac 12 title.

14

Florida 7-2 W:South Carolina 20-7 13

Tough sledding for Florida closing against LSU and Florida State with both games on the road.

15

LSU 6-3 W:#28 Arkansas 38-10 15

Statement win as we see what a healthy Leonard Fournette can do for your offense.

16

Auburn 7-3 L:Georgia 7-13 9

Were the Tigers caught looking ahead to the Iron Bowl against Alabama?

17

Texas A&M 7-3 L:Ole Miss 28-29 10

Hard to imagine this team had one loss and was still #4 when the initial College Football Rankings were announced.

Important for the Cornhuskers to get back in the win column after consecutive losses.

Impressive win on the road against the Longhorns, harder than the Texas record would suggest.

20

Washington State 8-2 W:Cal 56-21 25

The Cougars are the only undefeated Pac 12 team in conference play.

21

Boise State 9-1 W:Hawaii 52-16 21

Jeremy McNichols continuing to get it done for the Broncos out of the backfield.

22

USC 7-3 W:#4 Washington 26-13 29

Sam Darnold continuing to turns heads since grabbing a hold of the USC quarterback spot.

23

San Diego State 9-1 W:Nevada 46-16 24

347 more yards and Donnell Pumphrey will be the NCAA All-Time career rushing leader.

24

UNC 7-3 L:Duke 27-28 17

The Tar Heels likely saw their chance to win the Coastal side of the ACC come up 2 points short, although a Virginia tech loss still gives them hope.

25

Florida State 7-3 W:Boston College 45-7 27

Story of the season for Florida State: record against teams outside the AP top 25 at time of ranking is 6-0 and teams inside at time of ranking 1-3.

26

Tennessee 7-3 W:Kentucky 49-36 30

Hard fought win against Kentucky.

South Florida 8-2 W:Memphis 49-42 32

Quinton Flowers adds another 210 yards on the ground for South Florida.

29

Virginia Tech 7-3 L:Georgia Tech 20-30 23

Virginia Tech will likely still get into the ACC title game but they could have wrapped it up with a win against a Georgia Tech team that was fielding a backup quarterback.

30

Wyoming 7-3 L:UNLV 66-69 (3 OT) 16

One of the most disappointing results of the weekend as Wyoming goes from contender to pretender.

31

Navy 7-2 W:#39 Tulsa 42-40 33

Will Worth is a touchdown machine.

32

Troy 8-1 W:#37 Appalaichian State 28-24 35

The swoon for Baylor continues.

34

North Dakota State 9-1 W:Indiana State 41-17 34

Business as usual for North Dakota State.

The most inconsistent team in the Fierce 40 hands down.
