2016 Fierce 40: Week 2

Fierce 40 - Top 40 College Football Teams - Week 2

Alabama 2-0 W:Western Kentucky 38-10

Nick Saban went off in his post game press conference as he tries to use the media to take the attention away from the fact that Alabama has lost to Ole Miss 2 years in a row. Alabama tries to avois a three-peat on the road.

Florida State 2-0 W:Charleston Southern 52-8 3

Safety Derwin James will not be available against Louisville. This is a huge blow to the Seminole defense.

Ohio State

2-0 W:Tulsa 48-3 4

It doesn't matter how many players Ohio State lost to the draft a season ago. With a defense like this the Buckeyes remain a National Championship contender.

Houston 2-0 W:Lamar 42-0 5

Houston gets a comfortable win while getting to rest quarterback Greg Ward Jr.

Michigan 2-0 W:Central Florida 51-14 6

Michigan will face a much-improved Coloradfo squad this weekend but the Wolverines should still have little to worry about.

Clemson 2-0 W:Troy 30-24 2

What is it going to take to get Clemson on track? If Clemson had lost this game you better believe Ray-Ray McCloud would have felt humiliated after dropping the ball early on the way to the end zone. How many times do we have to see this happen? Hang on to the football people....I don't understand.

Wisconsin 2-0 W:Akron 54-10 8

Wisconsin holds the ball for 41 minutes in a dominating victory.

Stanford 1-0 Idle 7

Stanford welcomes USC before consecutive road games against UCLA and Washington.

Louisville 2-0 W:Syracuse 62-28 9

Louisville comes into week 3 leading all FBS teams averaging 66 points scored per game. Now things get real as #2 Florida State comes to town.

Ole Miss 1-1 W:Wofford 38-13 10

If Ole Miss losses this week it will drop them to 1-2 but both losses will be against the #1 and #2  teams in the poll.

Oklahoma 1-1 W:Louisiana-Monroe 59-17 11

Oklahoma has a chance to bounce back into prominance this week as they welcome Ohio State to Norman,

Tennessee 2-0 W:Virginia Tech 45-24 13

Tennessee spotted Virginia Tech 14 points but then took control in front of a record crowd at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Against App State Tennessee was turning the ball over, against Virginia Tech Tennessee was causing turnovers. Tennessee caused 5 turnovers and finished with a +4 in the category on the night.

LSU 1-1 W:Jacksonville State 34-13 12

In the preseason we predicted a quarterback controversy...that didn't take long.

Iowa 2-0 W:Iowa State 42-3 16

We have talked about Iowa and their need to jump on teams early. Through two weeks the Hawkeyes have outscored their opponents 35-3 in the first quarter, that will do it.

Washington 2-0 W:Idaho 59-14 18

A cupcake game with Poartland State coming up before moving into Pac-12 play.

Oregon 2-0 W:Virginia 44-26 15

Another win for the Ducks but they travel to face Nebraska this week and they better improve their run defense or they will come out on the losing end of this contest.

Baylor 2-0 W:SMU 40-13 17

The win for Baylor was a struggle early on as turnovers were flyng on both sides of the football. Baylor winds up being too much for the Mustangs in the end but this was far from a convincing win.

Miami 2-0 W:Florida Atlantic 38-10 19

Brad Kaaya struggled under center for the Hurricanes but running back Mark Walton posts 155 yards and 4 touchdowns to give the Hurricanes the boost they needed.

Georgia 2-0 W:Nicholls 26-24 14

The Bulldogs sqeak by a team they were favored to defeat by 55 points.

Michigan State 1-0 Idle 20

Michigan State with a well placed bye week on the schedule as they prepare to travel to Sound Bend in week 3.

Texas 2-0 W:UTEP 41-7 22

is Shane Beuchele the next star freshman quarterback that we need to talk about?

Boise State 2-0 W:Washington State 31-28 21

Boise State holds off a desperate Washington State squad after the Cougars mishandle the clock late and botch a potential tying field goal.

Texas A&M 2-0 W:Prarie View A&M 67-0 23

Road game with #30 Auburn this week seems to be one of the better games that is flying under the radar.

Florida 2-0 W:Kentucky 45-7 24

Florida has one more tune up game before traveling to Tennessee in week 4,

Utah 2-0 W:#31 BYU 20-19 25

The Utah defense bends but fails to break agauinst BYU.

Notre Dame 1-1 W:Nevada 39-10 29

The Irish bounced back well after their disappointing loss to Texas. Michigan State comes into week 3 a rested football team and Notre Dame has to show they can make stops consistently on defense.

North Carolina 1-1 W:Illinois 48-23 27

The Tar Heels defense played better down the stretch against Illinois then they did in week 1 when they laid an egg.

Arkansas 2-0 W:#26 TCU 41-38 NR

The takedown of TCU has the Razorbacks back in the land of the ranked teams.

Appalachian State 1-1 W:Old Dominion 31-7 30

Three touchdowns from running back Marcus Cox and suffocating defense, an Appalachian State formula for success.

Auburn 1-1 W:Arkansas State 51-14 32

Sean White has given the Tuigers stability at the quarterback position. Now it will be time to show the stability as Texas A&M and LSU loom in the next two contests.

San Diego State 2-0 W:Cal 45-40 NR

Donnel Pumphrey enters the Heisman race after putting nearly 300 rushing yards on Cal and carrying the Aztecs to the win. In case you haven't been paying attention to this team they have now won 12 games in a row dating back to last season.

USC 1-1 W:Utah State 45-7 33

The Trojans won't have much time to enjoy their first victory as they face Stanford.

Nebraska 2-0 W:Wyoming 52-17 37

Nebraska did a little more passing in this game but they took advantage of six Wyoming turnovers.

UCLA 1-1 W:UNLV 42-21 34

Josh Rosen spreads the ball around to 14 different receivers in his 24 completions without a turnover. this is what Josh Rosen needs to continue to do for the Bruins.

BYU 1-1 L:#25 Utah 19-20 31

BYU involved in another nailbiter, but this time they come out on the losing end.

Western Michigan 2-0 W:North Carolina Central 70-21 36

The week 1 win over Northwestern doesn't look nearly as good after Northwestern losses 9-7 in week FCS school Illinois State.

Marshall 1-0 W:Morgan State 62-0 39

Marshall looked very comfortable in their opener.

Minnesota 2-0 W:Indiana State 58-28 38

Quarterback Mitch Leidner looked more like himself in week 2 with four passing touchdowns,

Colorado 2-0 W:Idaho State 56-7 40

Colorado defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt sees his unit which is ranked 6th in points against in the country face Jim Harbaugh and Michigan this week. Leavitt served on Harbaughs staff when he was in San Francisco so Colorado will have some familiarity, let's see if this aides them.

Oklahoma State

1-1 L:Central Michigan 27-30 28

The Cowboys had a rule "missapplied" at the end of the game. The zany play with no time remaining that caused Central Michigan to win should not have counted or even been run. That said, Oklahoma State had 60 minutes to do something in this football game and failed miserably. You let a team hang around that long bad things can happen.

Dropped Out: TCU and Arizona.
