Fierce 40 - Top 40 College Football Teams - Week 7

Ranking

Team

W-L

Result

Previous

1

Alabama 7-0 W:#11 Tennessee 49-10

1

They should have erased any doubt  voters have out there as to who the top team is in the land.

2

Ohio State 6-0 W:#8 Wisconsin 30-23 (OT) 2

J.T. Barrett rose to the occasion and may have provided his signature Buckeye moment with this comeback win.

3

Michigan

6-0 Idle 4

Time to see how this team responds on the road.

4

Clemson 7-0 W:NC State 23-17 (OT) 3

Maybe this is Clemson's year. They seem to be getting all of the breaks on close plays so it may be in the cards.

5

Washington 6-0 Idle 5

Jake Browning leads the nation in passing efficiency and the defense is allowing just 13 PPG...a recipe for success.

6

Texas A&M 6-0 Idle 6

Game with Alabama this week could be the real SEC title game.

7

Louisville 5-1 W:Duke 28-14 7

A loss by Clemson would have been huge but now Lousiville gets a chance against the team that nearly took the Tigers down in NC State at home.

8

Nebraska 6-0 W:Indiana 27-22 9

We will continue to say it. We called Nebraska being this years Iowa since week 3 and the trend continues.

9

Baylor 6-0 W:Kansas 49-7 12

Baylor silently keeps winning as they hope to avoid the losses down the stretch that have plagued the team the last 3-4 years.

10

Wisconsin 4-2 L:#2 Ohio State 23-30 (OT) 8

Losses against the #2 and #3 teams in this poll and Wisconsin was in both those games until the very end. This is a better football team than they get credit for.

11

Boise State 6-0 W:Colorado State 28-23 13

Jeremy McNichols remains the best back in the country that virtually nobody has heard of.

12

Florida 5-1 W:Missouri 40-14 16

The Gator defense is only allowing 12 PPG and control their own destiny in the SEC East.

13

Houston 6-1 W:Tulsa 38-31 14

Houston was just inches away from going to overtime with Tulsa. The dominating defense we saw to open the season needs to return for the Cougars.

14

Oklahoma 4-2 W:Kansas State 38-17 17

The Sooners have a pair of losses but both were out of conference so they are a factor.

15

Arkansas 5-2 W:#10 Ole Miss 34-30 27

Huge win for Arkansas as they could not have afforded an 0-3 SEC start.

16

Florida State 5-2 W:Wake Forest 17-6 18

Has the defense turned the corner for Florida State? If so a win against Clemson would be huge for this team.

17

Tennessee 5-2 L:#1 Alabama 10-49 11

Now the Vols need some help if they want to take the SEC....a pick that was so popular when the season started.

18

Western Michigan 6-0 W:Akron 41-0 20

Boise State is still undefeated but they are a not a lock to get a BCS Bowl game. If they lose Western Michigan could crash the party. Something we have stated since they opened the year beating Northwestern.

19

West Virginia 5-0 W:Texas Tech 48-17 22

TCU and Oklahoma State upcoming as the Mountaineer defense has been one of the most surprising units around.

20

LSU 4-2 W:Southern Mississippi 45-10 21

Ed Orgeron...interim coach is getting it done at LSU...just like he did at USC in the same situation.

21

Utah 6-1 W:Oregon State 19-14 23

Game at UCLA looks like a classic trap game with Washington up after the Bruins...watch out Utes.

22

Colorado 5-2 W:#30 Arizona State 40-16 32

The Buffs are back and they now face a hurting Stanford squad.

23

Auburn 4-2 Idle 25

Nobody is really talking about Auburn, although their losses are against top 10 teams Clemson and Texas A&M.

24

Virginia Tech 4-2 L:Syracuse 17-31 19

Virginia Tech learned Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey is no joke.

25

North Carolina 5-2 W:#15 Miami 20-13 28

North Carolina needed this win after the egg they laid against Virginia Tech.

26

Miami 4-2 L:#28 North Carolina 13-20 15

Game with Virginia Tech could break up the logjam at the top of the Coastal Division of the ACC.

27

Oklahoma State 4-2 Idle 29

Kansas will be a tune up for West Virginia.

28

San Diego State 5-1 W:Fresno State 17-3 33

Donnel Pumphrey continues to pad his stats and is passing legends while doing so.

29

Ole Miss 3-3 L:#27 Arkansas 30-34 10

We cannot figure this team out at all.

30

Washington State 4-2 W:UCLA 27-21 39

Washington State won witholut a passing touchdown? One of the most surprising facts of the week.

31

Stanford 4-2 W:Notre Dame 17-10 31

Stanford will take any wins they can get at this point but this game with Notre Dame was far from pretty.

32

Wyoming 4-2 Idle 34

The game with Boise State on the 29th continues to loom large for the Cowboys.

33

TCU 4-2 Idle 35

Both losses this season are against top 20 teams (Arkansas and Oklahoma), TCU may still have some fight left in them.

34

South Florida 6-1 W:Connecticut 42-27 36

Quinton Flowers in the Heisman discussion? Don't laugh, especially after the quarterback passed for a pair of touchdowns and ran for three more against Connecticut.

35

Navy 4-1 Idle 37

Game with East Carolina was postponed and will be made up in November.

36

USC 4-3 W:Arizona 48-14 NR

We will admit we had left this team for dead...the Trojans are showing some moxy and Sam Darnold is raising eyebrows with his quarterback play.

37

Iowa 5-2 W:Purdue 49-35 38

The Iowa offense put up 49 in a game? We couldn't believe it either.

38

North Dakota State 5-1 L:South Dakota State 17-19 26

North Dakota State is...gulp...human.

39

NC State 4-2 L:#3 Clemson 17-24 (OT) NR

NC State nearly pulled off what would have been one of the biggest wins in school history. They now get ranked despite the loss to Clemson.

40

Arizona State 5-2 L:#32 Colorado 16-40 30

A talented but totally inconsistent squad.

Dropped Out: Georgia and Air Force.
