Heisman Watch 2016: Week 5

1. Lamar Jackson – QB Louisville: 101-170 59.4% 1,625 yards 14 TD 4 INT 92 carries 688 yards 7.5 YPC 14 TD. LW 1.

28 touchdowns through 5 games keeps Jackson #1 on this list despite the close loss to Clemson.

J.T. Barrett – QB Ohio State: 70-102 68.6% 888 yards 14 TD 2 INT 44 carries 205 yards 4.7 YPC 3 TD. LW 2.

Not eye-popping totals but he is the calm leader of this team and you can see the progression in his reads and decision making. Barrett has become a well-rounded quarterback.

3. Deshaun Watson – QB Clemson: 110-181 60.8% 1,302 yards 14 TD 7 INT 49 carries 221 yards 4.5 YPC. LW 9.

Five touchdown passes against Louisville sees Watson make the leap back into serious contender status.

4. Greg Ward Jr. – QB Houston: 99-140 70.7% 1,325 yards 8 TD 2 INT 63 carries 178 yards 5 TD. LW 6.

Best game of the season for Greg Ward Jr. as he was responsible for 450 yards offense as Houston gets revenge against the only team to defeat them in 2015.

5. Jake Browning Soph. – QB Washington: 82-116 70.7% 1,114 yards 17 TD 2 INT. LW NR.

Mistake free football and a 97 QBR against Stanford has many wondering whether Josh Rosen or Browning is the best sophomore quarterback in the Pac-12.

6. Donnell Pumphrey – RB San Diego State: 98 carries 750 yards 7.7 YPC 8 TD 11 catches 74 yards 0 TD LW 4.

Pumphrey still leads FBS in rushing despite the setback against South Alabama.

7. Christian McCaffrey- RB Stanford: 91 carries 485 yards 5.3 YPC 3 TD 18 catches 156 yards 8.7 YPC 1 TD. LW 3.

Washington jumped on Stanford early and hampered the number of times McCaffrey handled the football.

8. Jabrill Peppers – S/RB/KR/PR Michigan: 35 tackles 9.5 TFL 2.5 sacks 5 quarterback hurries 1 FF 2 carries 24 yards 12 PR 246 yards 20.5 YPR 1 TD 3 KR 95 yards 31.7 YPR . LW 5.

Just his presence on the field  makes the players around him better.

9.  Jeremy McNichols- RB Boise State: 89 carries 504 yards 5.7 YPC 7 TD 16 catches 216 yards 13.5 YPC 3 TD. LW 7.

A poor mans Christian Mccaffrey with the way he catches the football and is so elusive after the catch.

10. Davis Webb – QB Cal: 160-257 62.3% 2,143 yards 22 TD 6 INT 2 rushing TD. LW NR.

Has at least 4 touchdown passes in every game played this year.

Honorable Mention:  Steven Taylor, LB, Houston; Patrick Mahomes II QB, Texas Tech; Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State and Jamaal Williams, RB, BYU.
