2017-2018 College Bowl Analysis

D.J. Boyer gives you predictions and a guide to all of the Bowl Games and the Draft prospects to watch for.

Dec. 16th at 1:00 PM - New Orleans Bowl

#30 Troy (10-2) vs. North Texas (9-4)

North Texas was ranked during a few briefs weeks of this season as well so this is not a game involving two lowly teams. Troy needs to send quarterback Brandon Silvers out as a winner.

Prediction: Troy 31 North Texas 23

Final: Troy 50 North Texas 30 (DJ's Record 1-0)

Prospects to Watch:

Brandon Silvers - QB Sr.  7th Round/UFA

Cedarius Rookard- S Jr.  7th Round/UFA

North Texas

Elex Woodworth - OG Soph. UFA

Roderick Young - RB Jr UFA

Dec. 16th at 2:30 PM -  Cure Bowl

Western Kentucky (6-6) vs. Georgia State (6-5)

Western kentucky slipped a bit this year after losing coach Jeff Brohm to Purdue but they still have a lethal quarterback in Mike White. Georgia State went 6-5  while averaging less than 20 PPg scored.

Prediction: Western Kentucky 44 Georgia State 30

Final: Georgia State 27 Western Kentucky 17 (DJ's Record 1-1)

Prospects to Watch:

Western Kentucky

Mike White  - QB Sr.  6th Round

Jake Collins - P Jr. UFA

Georgia State

Penny Hart - WR Soph. 5th Round

Glenn Smith - RB Sr. UFA

Dec. 16th at 3:30 PM - Las Vegas Bowl

#26 Boise State (10-3) vs. Oregon (7-5)

On paper  this matchup looks like it would favor Boise State, especially with coach Willie Taggert gone for Oregon. Justin Herbert is what makes Oregon go as the Ducks wqere 1-4 when he wasn't in the lineup and 6-1 with him. Herbert is playing and that alone should be enough to score a mild upset.

Prediction: Oregon 37 Boise State 28

Final: Boise State 38 Oregon 28 (DJ's Record 1-2)

Prospects to Watch:

Boise State

David Moa - DE Jr. 4th Round

Cedrick Wilson - WR Sr. 5th Round

Royce Freeman - RB Sr. 3rd Round

Justin Herbert - QB Soph. 3rd Round

Dec. 16th at 4:30 PM - New Mexico Bowl

Marshall (7-5) vs. Colorado State (7-5)

Colorado State has an offense scoring at will while Marshall sputtered at times. There are too many high powered weapons for Marshall to handle here as Colorado State wins this one rather easily.

Prediction: Colorado State 33 Marshall 16

Final: Marshall 31 Colorado State 28 (DJ's Record 1-3)

Prospects to Watch:

Ryan Yuracheck - TESJr. 7tth Round

Ryan Bee - DE Jr.  7th Round/UFA

Colorado State

Michael Gallup - WR Sr. 2nd/3rd Round

Nick Stevens - QB Sr. 6th Round

Dec. 16th at 8:00 PM - Camellia Bowl

Middle Tennessee (6-6) vs. Arkansas State (7-4)

Middle Tennessee was slammed by key offensive injuries for most of the season but ended on a high note. Arkansas State end Ja'Von Rolland-Jones is one of the most underrated players in all of college football and the defense sets the pace giving Arkansas State the victory.

Prediction: Arkansas State 27 Middle Tennessee 14

Final: Middle Tennessee 35 Arkansas State 30 (DJ's Record 1-4)

Prospects to Watch:

Middle Tennessee

Richie James  - WR Jr. 5th Round

Jovante Moffatt - S Jr. 7th Round/UFA

Arkansas State

Ja'Von Rolland-Jones - DE/LB Sr. 3rd/4th Round

Justice Hansen - QB Jr. 5th/6th Round

Dec. 19th at 7:00 PM - Boca Raton Bowl

Akron (7-6) vs. #34 Florida Atlantic (10-3)

This may be the most lopsided bowl game of the entire bunch. Florida Atlantic is on an absolute roll and lead by touchdown machine Devin Singletary as his Heisman run for next year gets an early start.

Prediction: Florida Atlantic 51 Akron 22

Final:  Florida Atlantic 50 Akron 3 (DJ's Record 2-4)

Prospects to Watch:

Brian Bell - OLB Jr.  UFA

Brock Boxen  - DE Jr.  UFA

Florida Atlantic

Devin Singletary- RB Soph. 2nd/3rd Round

Jalen Young - S Jr. 5th Round

Dec. 20th at 8:00 PM - Frisco Bowl

Louisiana Tech (6-6) vs. SMU (7-5)

This may be a case where an individual player could determine the outcome of a game. SMU wide receiver Courtland Sutton is expected to make himself eligible for the 2018 Draft and if he does he is a candidate to sit out the Bowl Game and prepare for the NFL Draft. regardless, this has been a crazy bowl season thus far...expect the unexpected and go with Louisiana Tech.

Prediction:  Louisiana Tech 35 SMU 21

Final:  Louisiana Tech 51 SMU 10 (DJ's Record 3-4)

Prospects to Watch:

Louisiana Tech

Jaylen Ferguson - DE Jr.  4th/5th Round

OShea Dugas  - OG Jr.  7th Round

Courtland Sutton - WR  Jr. 1st Round

Justin Lawler - DE Jr. 4th Round

Dec. 21st at 8:00 PM - Gasparilla Bowl

Temple (6-6) vs. Florida International (8-4)

On paper this looks like advantage Florida International but Temple played its best football of the season coming down he stretch. This is one of the hardest games to predict as Butch Davis has turned around the Florida International program. In the end Temple will win by playing a physical brand of defensive football that will be a little too much for Florida International.

Prediction: Temple 23 Florida International 21

Final:  Temple 28 Florida International 3 (DJ's Record 4-4)

Prospects to Watch:

Sean Chandler - S Sr.  5th Round

Ryquell Armstead  - RB Jr.  7th Round/UFA

Florida International

Niko Gonzalez - S  Jr. UFA

Jermaine Sheriff - DE Jr. UFA

Dec. 22nd at 12:30 PM - Bahamas Bowl

UAB (8-4) vs. Ohio (8-4)

Just a few seasons ago UAB was shutting down it's football program and players were allowed to transfer (See Jordan Howard). After a year in limbo the program revived the program and now they are 8-4 and heading to a bowl game, a remarkable turnaround. UAB faces an Ohio team that has underperformed and is tough to figure out. We like Ohio but if UAB wins it would be an amazing story, something worthy of a Disney movie.

Prediction: Ohio 27 UAB 23

Final:  Ohio 41 UAB 6 (DJ's Record 5-4)

Prospects to Watch:

A.J. Erderly - QB Jr.  UFA

Spencer Brown  - RB Fr.  5th Round

Quentin Poling - LB  Sr. 5th Round

Joe Lowery - OT Jr. UFA

Dec. 22nd at 4:00 PM - Idaho Potato Bowl

Central Michigan (8-4) vs. Wyoming (7-5)

Quarterback Josh Allen has a huge effect on this game. Allen has not had the stellar year many thought but he is still looked upon as a 1st Round pick if he comes out and declares for the Draft. Allen is banged up and if he is going to come out then we run the risk of him skipping the Bowl game. This is a huge advantage for Central Michigan. Central Michigans's worst enemy is...Central Michigan. The Chippewas get flagged about as much as any team in the country and have been prone to turning the ball over. As long as Central Michigan limits the mistakes they should handle Wyoming.

Prediction: Central Michigan 34 Wyoming 24

Final:  Wyoming 37 Central Michigan 14 (DJ's Record 5-5)

Prospects to Watch:

Central Michigan

Joe Ostman - DE Sr.  4th/5th Round

Tyler Conklin - TE Sr.  7th Round/UFA

Josh Allen - QB  Jr. 1st Round

Andrew Wingard - S Jr. 2nd/3rd Round

Dec. 23rd at 12:00 PM - Birmingham Bowl

Texas Tech (6-6) vs. #25 South Florida (9-2)

This should be an offensive show and while South Florida looks like the overwealming favorite we are betting on Texas Tech coming to play. The South Florida defense will have problems containing the Texas Tech aerial attack as the Red raiders post a mild upset.

Prediction: Texas Tech 41 South Florida 37

Final:  South Florida 38 Texas Tech 34 (DJ's Record 5-6)

Prospects to Watch:

Texas Tech

Christian Taylor - S Soph.  4th/5th Round

Keke Coutee - WR Jr.  5th Round

South Florida

Deatrick Nichols - CB  Sr. 2nd/3rd Round

Deadrin Senat- DT Sr. 7th Round

Dec. 23rd at 3:30 PM - Armed Forces Bowl

#29 San Diego State (10-2) vs. #40 Army (9-3)

Army is on top of the world after winning their first Commander-In-Chief Trophy since 1996. San Diego State will do their best to control the football on the ground with Rashaad Penny and keep the Army rushing attack off the field. San Diego State prevails in what should be an interesting game.

Prediction: San Diego State 30 Army 20

Final:  Army 42 San Diego State 35 (DJ's Record 5-7)

Prospects to Watch:

San Diego State

Rashaad Penny - RB Sr.  3rd/4th Round

David Wells - TE Sr.  6th Round

Brett Toth - OT  Sr. 7th Round/UFA

Ahmad Bradshaw - RB Jr. UFA

Dec. 23rd at 7:00 PM - Dollar General Bowl

Appalachian State (8-4) vs. #24 Toledo (11-2)

The most interesting stat we can find about this game concerns the quarterbacks. There are three quarterbacks at the FBS level that have thrown at least 25 touchdowns with fewer than 8 intcerceptions. Heisman winner Baker Mayfield is one and the other two face off here with Taylor Lamb from App State and Logan Woodside from Toledo. Woodside is one of the fastest draft risers at this point and we believe he leads Toledo to a 12th victory on the year.

Prediction: Toledo 31 Appalachian State 24

Final:  Appalaichian State 34 Toledo 0 (DJ's Record 5-8)

Prospects to Watch:

Appalachian State

Eric Boggs - ILB Sr.  5th/6th Round

Colby Gossett - OT Sr.  7th Round/UFA

Logan Woodside - QB  Sr. 6th/7th Round

Cody Thompson - WR Sr. 4th/5th Round

Dec. 24th at 8:30 PM - Hawaii Bowl

#28 Fresno State (9-4) vs.  Houston (7-4)

Here we have a pair of offenses that have different philosophies. Fresno State is about balance and ball control while Houston is about quick strike capabilities and catching a team off guard. Fresno State will slow this game down and win along the line of scrimmage if they can contain Houston's Ed Oliver at defensive tackle.

Prediction: Fresno State 20 Houston 17

Final:  Fresno State 33 Houston 27 (DJ's Record 6-8)

Prospects to Watch:

Fresno State

Jeffrey Allison - ILB Jr.  5th Round

Christian Cronk - OT Jr.  UFA

Ed Oliver - DT  Soph. 1st Round

Will Noble - C Jr. 4th/5th Round

Dec. 26th at 1:30 PM - Heart of Dallas Bowl

Utah (6-6) vs.  #35 West Virginia (7-5)

Four of the six Utah losses have been by eight points or less so the Utes have been in games.West Virginia beat the teams they should have and fell flat against superior competition. With Will Grier sidelined for West Virginia it will be tough sledding for the Mountaineer offense. We like the Utes due to the missing pieces with the Mountaineers.

Prediction: Utah 28 West Virginia 26

Final:  Utah 30 West Virginia 14 (DJ's Record 7-8)

Prospects to Watch:

Lowell Lotulelei - DT Sr.  2nd/3rd Round

Mitch Wishnowsky - P Jr.  6th/7th Round

West Virginia

Kyzir White - S  Sr. 3rd Round

David Sills - WR Jr. 3rd Round

Dec. 26th at 5:15 PM - Quick Lane  Bowl

Duke (6-6) vs.  #35 Northern Illinois (8-4)

While not one of the most exciting games on the docket this has to be one of the closest to call. If only we could combine these two sqauds and their seasons we could build a great team. Duke was getting it done in the beginning of the year after winning their first four games to start the year. Duke then lost six in a row before winning two games to become bowl eligible. Northern Illinois played well down the stretch so we are going with the hot hand.

Prediction: Northern Illinois 23 Duke 22

Final:  Duke 36 Northern Illinois 14 (DJ's Record 7-9)

Prospects to Watch:

Mark Gilbert - CB Soph.  3rd Round

Bern Humphreys - OLB Jr.  5th Round

Northern Illinois

Sutton Smith - OLB  Soph. 4th Round

Max Sharping - OT Jr. 6th/7th Round

Dec. 26th at 9:00 PM - Cactus  Bowl

#36 Kansas State (7-5) vs. UCLA (6-6)

I wonder what the over/under on this game is going to be because we should expect to see a lot of points. UCLA scores nearly 34 points a game but they give up nearly 37 and rank 118th in points against nationally. Kansas State has been a team that seems to play to its level of competition all season long. We will take Kansas State here as we have late word that Josh Rosen will be unavailable.

Prediction: Kansas State 32 UCLA 23

Final:  Kansas State 37 UCLA 17 (DJ's Record 8-9)

Prospects to Watch:

Kansas State

Dalton Risner - C Jr.  3rd Round

Winston Dimel - FB Jr.  4th Round

Josh Rosen - QB  Jr. 1st Round

Scott Quessenberry - OG Sr. 4th/5th Round

Dec. 27th at 1:30 PM - Independence  Bowl

Southern Mississippi (8-4) vs. Florida State (6-6)

With the exception of the regular season finale over Marshall, Southern Miss didn't beat any teams of great significance this year and the 8-4 record seems like window dressing. Florida State struggled through a 6-6 campaign but they have too many athletes for Southern Miss to account for.

Prediction: Florida State 31 Southern Mississippi 13

Final: Florida State 42 Southern Mississippi 13 (DJ's Record 9-9)

Prospects to Watch:

Southern Mississippi

Ty Pollard - OT Soph.  6th Round

Ito Smith - RB Sr.  UFA

Florida State

Derwin James - S  Soph. 1st Round

Tarvarus McFadden  - CB Jr. 1st Round

Dec. 27th at 5:15 PM - Pinstripe Bowl

Iowa (7-5) vs. Boston College (7-5)

Boston College closed out the regular season winning 5 of their last 6 games including wins over Florida State and Louisville while only dropping their game with NC State by a field goal. Boston College seems to be a wise choise as Iowa floundered down ther stretch after their demolition of Ohio State, which was by far the high point of the season.

Prediction: Boston College 21 Iowa 20

Final:  Iowa 27 Boston College 20 (DJ's Record 9-10)

Prospects to Watch:

Josh Jackson - CB Jr.  1st Round

Josey Jewell - ILB Sr.  2nd/3rd Round

Boston College

Harold Landry - DE Sr.  1st/2nd Round

Chris Lindstrom  - OG Jr. 4th Round

Dec. 27th at 8:30 PM - Foster Farms Bowl

Arizona (7-5) vs. Purdue (6-6)

No shortage of offense in this game. The problem is the defense on the Purdue side of the football is worlds better than Arizona. If this was all about offense we would pick Arizona and Khalil Tate, but it's not.

Prediction: Purdue 44 Arizona 35

Final: Purdue 38 Arizona 35 (DJ's Record 10-10)

Prospects to Watch:

Nick WIlson - RB Sr.  6th/7th Round

Justin Bleknap - DE Soph.  5th/6th Round

Gelen Robinson - DE Sr.  7th Round

Kirk Barron  - C Jr. UFA

Dec. 27th at 9:00 PM - Texas Bowl

Texas (6-6) vs. Missouri (7-5)

Hasn't been the start Tom Herman was hoping for at Texas and the Longhorns face a team in Missouri with a ton of momentum. Not even playing in the Texas Bowl can give the Longhorns a win in this one.

Prediction: Missouri 44 Texas 28

Final:  Texas 33 Missouri 16 (DJ's Record 10-11)

Prospects to Watch:

Connor Williams - OT Jr.  1st Round

Malik Jefferson - ILB Jr.  1st/2nd Round

Drew Lock - QB Jr.  3rd/4th Round

JMon Moore  - WR Sr. 4th Round

Dec. 28th at 1:30 PM - Military Bowl

Virginia (6-6) vs. Navy (6-6)

Both teams took similar paths to this bowl game. Both started 5-1 and then went 1-5 down the stretch. Virginia has not been "bowling" for the last six years while Navy has a habit of getting there but coming up short. This is a game where the team that is the most effiicent in the Red Zone should win, an area where each has struggled.

Prediction: Virginia 24 Navy 20

Final:  Navy 49 Virginia 7 (DJ's Record 10-12)

Prospects to Watch:

Micah Kiser - LB Sr.  2nd/3rd Round

Quin Blanding - S Sr.   2nd/3rd Round

Micah Thomas - LB Sr.  UFA

Evan Martin - OG Sr. UFA

Dec. 28th at 5:15 PM - Camping World Bowl

#17 Oklahoma State (9-3) vs. #22 Virginia Tech (9-3)

Quite simply you have the 3rd highest scoring offense (46.3 PPG) in Oklahoma State against the 5th lowest points against per game (13.5) in VIrginia Tech. It's safe to say the score falls soemwhere in the middle but Oklahoma State should have the upper hand, especially with Virginia Tech's best offensive weaponded sidelined for this game (wide receiver Cam Phillips). Looks like Oklahoma State gets the nod.

Prediction: Oklahoma State 34 Virginia Tech 23

Final: Oklahoma State 30 Virginia Tech 21  (DJ's Record 11-12)

Prospects to Watch:

Oklahoma State

Mason Rudolph - QB Sr.  1st/2ndRound

James Washington - WR Sr.   1st Round

Virginia Tech

Terrell Edmunds - OLB/S Jr.  2nd Round

Wyatt Teller - OG Sr. 3rd/4th Round

Dec. 28th at 9:00 PM - Alamo Bowl

#15 Stanford (9-4) vs. #13 TCU (10-3)

It seems like Stanford running back Bryce Love will play in this game or this would be an easy decision. We like TCU in a nailbiter.

Prediction: TCU 16 Stanford 14

Final:  TCU 39 Stanford 37 (DJ's Record 12-12)

Prospects to Watch:

Joseph Noteboom - OT Sr.  3rd Round

Nick Orr - S Sr.  4th Round

Bryce Love - RB Jr.  1st/2nd Round

Justin Reid - S Jr. 3rd Round

Dec. 28th at 9:00 PM - Holiday Bowl

#21 Washington State (9-3) vs. #19 Michigan State (9-3)

Is it possible to find a pair of coaches with more contrasting styles and philosophies than Mike Leach and Mike Dantonio? We will go with defense in this one but this game could go either way.

Prediction: Michigan State 27 Washington State 24

Final:  Michigan State 42 Washington State 17 (DJ's Record 13-12)

Prospects to Watch:

Washington State

Hercules Mataafa - DE Jr.  2nd Round

Luke Falk - QB Sr.  3rd Round

Michigan State

Raequan Williams - DT Jr.  3rd Round

Brian Allen - C Sr. 5th Round

Dec. 29th at 1:00 PM - Belk Bowl

Wake Forest (7-5) vs. #39 Texas A&M (7-5)

Kevin Sumlin is gone as Jimbo Fisher takes over Texas A&M in a high profile hire. Jeff Banks will be the coach here and the key for the Aggies will be getting out to a good start and not playing from behind. Wake Forest has more balance and in Mike Weaver a capable kicker as this could come down to field goals.

Prediction: Wake Forest 23 Texas A&M 20

Final:  Wake Forest 55 Texas A&M 52 (DJ's Record 14-12)

Prospects to Watch:

Wake Forest

Duke Ejiofor - DE Sr.  2nd Round

Cam Serigne - TE Sr.  5th Round

Texas A&M

Christian Kirk - WR Jr.  1st Round

Armani Watts - S Sr. 2nd/3rd Round

Dec. 29th at 3:00 PM - Sun Bowl

#31 NC State (8-4) vs. #37 Arizona State (7-5)

NC State is a battle tested club that has lost it's share of close games and had some monster wins while Arizona State is about as inconsistent as they come. NC State gets a big lead and Arizona State gets some points in garbage time to make it look respectable.

Prediction: NC State 30 Arizona State 22

Final:  NC State 52 Arizona State 31 (DJ's Record 15-12)

Prospects to Watch:

NC State

Bradley Chubb - DE Sr.  1st Round

B.J. Hill - DT Sr.  4th Round

Arizona State

Zach Robertson - OT Soph.  4th/5th Round

Kalen Ballage - RB Sr. 6th Round

Dec. 29th at 4:30 PM - Music City Bowl

Kentucky (7-5) vs. #20 Northwestern (9-3)

One of the most lopsided matchups on paper will be up and coming quarterback Clayton Thorson and Northwestern winning the Wildcat battle.

Prediction: Northwestern 26 Kentucky 10

Final:  Northwestern 24 Kentucky 23 (DJ's Record 16-12)

Prospects to Watch:

C.J. Conrad - TE Jr.  3rd/4th Round

Benny Snell Jr. - RB Soph.  4th Round

Godwin Igwebuike - S Sr.  3rd/4th Round

Clayton Thorson - QB Jr. 2nd Round

Dec. 29th at 5:30 PM - Arizona Bowl

New Mexico State (6-6) vs. Utah State (6-6)

This game is abolut as attractive as rabies, I can't imagine many people outside of New Mexico or Utah watching this one. Most attractive aspect might be watching huge 6'5" receiver Jaleel Scott from Nex Mexico State who is one of the fastest rising wide receivers on the current draft board.

Prediction: New Mexico State 34 Utah State 24

Final:  New Mexico State 26 Utah State 20 (OT) (DJ's Record 17-12)

Prospects to Watch:

New Mexico State

Jaleel Scott - WR Sr. 4th/5th Round

Ron LaForce Jr. - S Jr.  7th Round/UFA

Utah State

Jalen Davis - CB Sr.  6th/7th Round

Kent Myers - QB Sr. UFA

Dec. 29th at 8:30 PM - Cotton Bowl

#7 USC (11-2) vs. #5 Ohio State (11-2)

A pair of conference Champions who fell just short of qualifying for the College Football Playoff. Sam Darnold is the big quarterback here who can produce in the Big Game (see Rose Bowl against Penn State last year) but J.T. Barrett is a seasoned veteran. Barrett has trhrown 8 interceptions in his last five games so for Ohio State to be successful they have to do it o the ground.

Prediction: Ohio State 36 USC 31

Final:  Ohio State 24 USC 7 (DJ's Record 18-12)

Prospects to Watch:

Sam Darnold - QB Soph. 1st Round

Cameron Smith - ILB Jr.  2nd/3rd Round

Ohio State

Sam Hubbard - DE Jr.  1st Round

Billy Price - OG/C Sr. 1st/2nd Round

Dec. 30th at 12:00 PM - Taxslayer Bowl

#33 Louisville (8-4) vs. #23 Mississippi State (8-4)

Mississippi State will be without their head coach as Dan Mullen is now leading Florida and new coach Joe Moorhead doesn't take over until next season. This uncertainty coupled with Jaire Alexander coming back for Louisville and boosting the pass defense gives the Cardinals the advantage.

Prediction: Louisville 38 Mississippi State 27

Final:  Mississippi 31 Louisville 27. (DJ's Record 18-13)

Prospects to Watch:

Lamar Jackson - QB Jr. 1st Round

Jaire Alexander - CB Jr.  1st Round

Mississippi State

Martinas Rankin - OT Sr.  1st/2nd Round

Darryl Williams - OG Soph. 1st Round

Dec. 30th at 12:30 PM - Liberty Bowl

#38 Iowa State (7-5) vs. #16 Memphis (10-2)

Memphis can score with the best teams in the country as they topped the 40 point plateau in nine of their twelve games this season. Iowa State has one of the best defenses in the Big 12 and held nearly every opponents under their scoring average as well as handing Oklahoma their only defeat. We like Iowa State in a low scoring affair.

Prediction: Iowa State 24 Memphis 21

Final: Iowa State 21 Memphis 20 (DJ's Record 19-13)

Prospects to Watch:

Iowa State

Allen Lazard - WR Sr. 3rd/4th Round

Marcel Spears Jr. - LB Soph. 2nd/3rd Round

Anthony Miller - WR Sr.  2nd/3rd Round

Riley Ferguson - QB Sr. 5th Round

Dec. 30th at 4:00 PM - Fiesta Bowl

#11 Washington (10-2) vs. #12 Penn State (10-2)

Washington has been a quiet team all season just kind of lurking in the Pac-12 while Penn State looked bound for the College Playoff before a stunning loss to Ohio State and a bad loss to Michigan State exposed some weaknesses. The biggest deficiency of any team here is Penn State and their inability to get their offensive line woes straightened out. Washington makes them pay and takes the Fiesta Bowl.

Prediction: Washington 30 Penn State 26

Final:  Penn State 35 Washington 28 (DJ's Record 19-14)

Prospects to Watch:

Vita Vea - DT Jr. 1st Round

Trey Adams Jr. - OT Jr. 2nd Round

Penn State

Saquon Barkley - RB Jr.  1st Round

Marcus Allen - S Sr. 2nd/3rd Round

Dec. 30th at 8:00 PM - Orange Bowl

#6 Wisconsin (12-1) vs. #10 Miami (10-2)

Early in the season it looked like Miami was a team of destiny as they pulled out close win after close win. Late in the year they were exposed as a team that did not belong among the elite while Wisconsin blew their opportunity for an undefeated regular season losing to Ohio State in the Big Ten title game. Wisconsin failed against the Buckeyes but not against the Hurricanes.

Prediction: Wisconsin 24 Miami 14

Final:  Wisconsin 34 Miami 24 (DJ's Record 20-14)

Prospects to Watch:

Beau Benschawel - OG Jr. 1st Round

Johnathan Taylor - RB Fr. 1st Round

Michael Pinckney - LB Soph.  2nd Round

Shaquille Quarterman - LB Soph. 2nd/3rd Round

Jan. 1st at 12:00 PM - Outback Bowl

#27 Michigan (8-4) vs. #32 South Carolina (8-4)

For South Carolina to have a chance against a tough Michigan defense they will need their injuried running backs to play and be effective. Michigan has had it's share of problems in a disappointing 8-4 campaign bu the injuries in the Gamecock backfield prove to be too much.

Prediction: Michigan 27 South Carolina 20

Final: South Carolina 26 Michigan 19 (DJ's Record 20-15)

Prospects to Watch:

Maurice Hurst - DT Sr. 2nd Round

Mason Cole - C Sr.. 3rd/4th Round

South Carolina

Hayden Hurst - TE Jr.  4th Round

D.J. Wonnom - DE Soph. 4th Round

Jan. 1st at 12:30 PM - Peach Bowl

#9 Central Florida (12-0) vs. #8 Auburn (10-3)

To think Central Florida is going for a 13-0 record when just two seasons ago they were 0-12, completing one of the most remarkable turnarounds in recent FBS memory. The offense ranked #5 overall but the defense was just 94th. Auburn has more balance and better athletes. Auburn should win but they could lose if they take Central Florida lightly.

Prediction: Auburn 34 Central Florida 30

Final:  Central Florida 34 Auburn 27 (DJ's Record 20-16)

Prospects to Watch:

Central Florida

Shaqueem Griffin- LB Sr. 6th Round

TreQuan Smith - WR Jr.7th Round

Carlton Davis - CB Jr. 1st Round

Braden Smith - OT Jr. 2nd Round

Jan. 1st at 1:00 PM - Citrus Bowl

#18 Notre Dame (9-3) vs. #14 LSU (9-3)

Just three seasons ago these teams met in the Music City Bowl with Notre Dame prevailing 31-28 in a very entertaining game. LSU extracts revenge as the SEC keeps plodding along in the bowl season.

Prediction: LSU 40 Notre Dame 27

Final:  Notre Dame 21 LSU 17 (DJ's Record 20-17)

Prospects to Watch:

Notre Dame

Quentin Nelson - OG Jr. 1st Round

Mike McGlinchey - OT Sr. 1st Round

Arden Key - DE/LB Jr.  1st Round

Will Clapp - C Jr. 2nd Round

Jan. 1st at 5:00 PM - Rose Bowl - College Football Playoff

#1 Oklahoma (12-1) vs. #3 Georgia (12-1)

The first of two intriging playoff matchups pits the the 4th highest scoring offense in the nation (Oklahoma 44.9) against the 3rd stingiest defense at the FBS level (Georgia 13.2 PPG). A classic unstoppable force against immovable object scenario. While the SEC should bounce back and have a great run through the bowl season we are going with Baker Mayfield and the Heisman winning quarterback Baker Mayfield in a close game.

Prediction: Oklahoma 31 Georgia 29

Final:  Georgia 54 Oklahoma 48 (OT) (DJ's Record 20-18)

Prospects to Watch:

Baker Mayfield - QB Sr. 1st/2nd Round

Mark Andrews - TE Jr. 1st/2nd Round

Roquan Smith - LB Soph.  2nd Round

Nick Chubb - RB Sr. 2nd Round

Jan. 1st at 8:45 PM - Sugar Bowl - College Football Playoff

#2 Clemson (12-1) vs. #4 Alabama (11-1)

This feels more like a boxing superfight with the third installment of Alabama-Clemson and the first two have been classics...we need a rubber match to decide this. The committee made the right choice with Alabamagetting in the playoff over Ohio State. It may be unconventional but we are betting on the SEC to lose both the semi finals games as Clemson gets a chance to truly defend their title.

Prediction: Clemson 37 Alabama 34

Final:  Alabama 24 Clemson 6 (DJ's Record 20-19)

Prospects to Watch:

Christian WIlkins - DTJr. 1st Round

Austin Bryant - DE Jr.. 1st Round

Minkah Fitzpatrick - CB Sr.  1st Round

DaRon Payne - DT Jr. 1st Round

Jan. 8th at 8:00 PM - College Football Championship

#3 Georgia (13-1) vs. #4 Alabama (12-1)

After getting a few games comfortably above .500 I hit the skids. I will select Albama here which probably ensures a Georgia victory, especially since last week I stated the winner of the Oklahoma/Georgia game would win the title. Alabama will make Georgia win through the air and Fromm is not mobiler enough to give Alabama fits as we have notated they struggle with mobile running quarterbacks.

Prediction: Alabama 32 Geoirgia 24

Final: Alabama 26 Georgia 23 OT (DJ's Record 21-19)
