by DJ Boyer on Sep. 18, 2017

Heisman Watch 2017: Week 3

1. Baker Mayfield – QB Oklahoma: 63-82 75.8% 1,046 yards 10 TD 0 INT. LW 2.

Still no interceptions and Mayfield moves to the top spot following a Louisville loss.

2. Mason Rudolph – QB Oklahoma State: 68-94 72.3% 1,135 yards 11 TD 1 INT 2 rushing TD.  LW 6.

Looks like quarterbacking a team i the state of Oklahoma is a desirtable job right now with Rudolph and Mayfield.

3. Saquon Barkley – RB Penn State: 38 carries 307 yards 8.1 YPC 3 TD 11 catches 241 yards 21.9 YPC 2 TD. LW 3.

An 85 yard touchdown reception has inflated the pass catching numbers a bit but Barkley is very dangerous as a receiver.

4. Lamar Jackson – QB Louisville: 76-127 59.8% 1,088 yards 8 TD 1 INT 57 carries 303 yards 5.3 YPC 3 TD. LW 1.

Jackson is down but far from being out of the Heisman race.

5. Royce Freeman – RB Oregon: 82 carries 460 yards 5.6 YPC 9 TD 6 catches 109 yards 18.2 YPC . LW 4.

The Ducks are flying high again and Freeman already has found the end zone nine times.

6. Nick Fitzgerald – QB Mississippi State: 43-70 61.4% 543 yards 7 TD 1 INT 31 carries 240 yards 7.7 YPC 5 TD. LW NR.

Fitzgerald raised more than a few eyebrows with an utter dismantling of lSU.

7.  Dante Pettis - WR/PR Washington:  12 catches 209 yards 17.4 YPC 3 TD  6 PR 237 yards 37.5 YPR 3 TD 1/1 passing 36 yards. LW NR.

Why are teams still kicking to Dante Pettis, 1 more punt return for touchdown makes him the NCAA all-time leader, and he's a pretty good receiver too.

8. Josh Rosen – QB UCLA: 91-140 66.0% 1,283 yards 13 TD 2 INT 1 rushing TD.  LW 5.

UCLA doesn;t want Rosen putting it up 47 times a game, his current average. Made some costly mistakes against Memphis but he also made a lot of big throws.

9. Sam Darnold – QB USC: 72-108 766.7% 1,002 yards 7 TD 6 INT.  LW 7.

USC had just enough to get by Texas but the 7-6 TD/INT ratio is a little concerning.

10. Rashaad Penny – RB San Diego State: 71 carries 588 yards 8.3 YPC 4 TD 9 catches 69 yards 1 TD. LW NR.

Penny is the current NCAA rushing leader.

Honorable Mention:   Quentin Flowers, QB, South Florida;  James Washington  WR, Oklahoma State; Ed Oliver, DT, Houston; Micah Kiser, LB, Virginia and Jake Browning, QB, Washington.
