2019 Fierce 40: Week 1

Fierce 40 2019 - Top 40 College Football Teams - Week 1

Clemson 1-0 W: Georgia Tech 52-14 1

Clemson picks right up where they left off.

Alabama 1-0 W: Duke 42-3 2

Alabama was in cruise control after a sluggish 1st quarter.

Georgia 1-0 W: at Vanderbilt 30-6 3

323 yards rushing will win you games 99% of the time.

Ohio State 1-0 W: Florida Atlantic 45-21 4

New Buckeye coach Ryan Day has stated he wants a balanced offenisve attack, 237 yards rushing and 232 passing is about as balanced as it gets.

Oklahoma 1-0 W: Houston 49-31 5

There were many doubters to Oklahoma having a quarterback win a third straight Heisman, those doubters are quiet now.

Michigan 1-0 W: Middle Tennessee State 40-21 7

A pair of fumbles came at key moments but Michigan still won easily.

LSU 1-0 W: Georgia Southern 55-3 9

Suddenly becomeing a trendy pick after their impressive opener.

Texas 1-0 W: Louisiana Tech 45-14 8

Collin Johnson coming back to Texas for his senior season is already paying dividends.

Auburn 1-0 W: vs. #6 Oregon 27-21 16

Bo Nix showed some moxy as a freshman quarterback in his first collegiate game.

Washington 1-0 W: Eastern Washington 47-14 10

Eastern Washington is never a pushover, the Huskies handled their business well.

11 Texas A&M 1-0 W: Texas State 41-7

Could be a sleeping giant killer in the SEC this year.

Florida 1-0 W: #28 Miami 24-20 13

One of the best games of the weekend, it was a shame either team had to lose.

Utah 1-0 W: at BYU 30-12 12

The Oregon loss opens things up for the Utes who have the easiest schedule of the contending Pac-12 teams.

Oregon 0-1 L: vs. #16 Auburn 21-27 6

The Pac-12 loses again in a big game on the national stage.

Michigan State 1-0 W: Tulsa 28-7 14

-73 yards rushing was one of the best statistics from the weekend.

Wisconsin 1-0 W: at South Florida 49-0 17

Johnathan Taylor doing damage as a receiver is bad news for the rest of the Big Ten.

TCU 1-0 W: Arkansas Pine-Bluff 39-7 15

Nearly 500 yards of offense against the inferior Arkansas Pine-Bluff is a good sign as TCU has a habit of playing down to competition in recent years.

UCF 1-0 W: Florida A&M 62-0 19

UCF won the first downs battle...42-8...that says it all.

Penn State 1-0 W: Idaho 79-7 22

You get the feeling Penn State was sending a message in this game.....message received.

Notre Dame 1-0 W: at Louisville 35-17 21

Louisville got their yards on the ground but Notre Dame never lost a grip on this win.

Mississippi State 1-0 W: at Louisiana 38-28 18

The defense showed some weaknesses but TOmmy Stephens showed well in his first game with the Bulldogs.

Stanford 1-0 W: #24 Northwestern 17-7 20

A nightmare to watch this game, rarely do we see a ranked team defeat another ranked team and drop in the polls.

Baylor 1-0 W: Stephen F. Austin 56-17 25

Baylor put this to bed by halftime.

Washington State 1-0 W: New Mexico Staste 58-7 29

Mike Leach saying new quarterback Anthony Gordon was doing "alright" when interviewed going into the tunnel at halftime was priceless. Gordon at the time was 22-23 with 330 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Miami 0-1 L: at #13 Florida 20-24 28

Miami played hard for new coach Manny Diaz and easily could have won this game.

Virginia 1-0 W: at Pitt 30-14 31

Virginia winning coupled with a Virginia tech loss to opener the season. I don't think things could have gone any better for the Cavaliers.

Iowa 1-0 W: Miami(Ohio) 38-14 30

Not sure what to make of the Hawkeyes right now.

Iowa State 1-0 W: Northern Iowa 29-26 (3 OT) 23

File under "Team most fortunate to win this weekend".

Boise State 1-0 W: at Florida State 36-31 37

Tough game on the road to open the year and the Broncos passed the test.

Appalachian State 1-0 W: East Tennessee State 42-7 32

No Satterfield Blues to open the season and it was business as usual.

Minnesota 1-0 W: South Dakota State 28-21 26

Coach Fleck should be disappointed with this outcome as there were large portions of this game where the Gophers were outplayed.

Northwestern 0-1 L: #20 Stanford 7-17 24

USC 1-0 W: Fresno State 31-23 33

Losing your starting quarterback in the week 1 is usually not a recipe for success. USC won but they seemed confused on a lot of defensive assignments.

Boston College 1-0 W: #27 Virginia Tech 35-28 NR

Something told us we should have ranked Boston College to open the season...our bad.

Maryland 1-0 W: Howard 79-0 36

These schools are only 35 miles apart....not how your normally treat your neighbors.

Colorado 1-0 W: Colorado State 52-31 39

Big rivalry win to start the year.

Syracuse 1-0 W: at Liberty 24-0 40

That defensive line for Syracuse might be responsible for an upset in the coming weeks....just saying.

Virginia Tech 0-1 L: at Boston College 28-35 27

Anybody else get the feeling that coach Justin Fuente might be on the hot seat in Blacksburg?

West Virginia 1-0 W: James Madison 20-13 35

James Madison is no pushover but West Virginia had chances to put them away and let them hang around...almost cost them the game.

Nebraska 1-0 W; South Alabama 35-21 NR

We aren't sipping the Nebraska Kool-Aid yet.

Dropped Out: South Carolina, Arizona
