College Bowl Analysis

by DJ Boyer on Dec. 6, 2016

D.J. Boyer gives you predictions and a guide to all of the Bowl Games and the Draft prospects to watch for.

Dec. 17th at 12:00 PM - Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl

North Carolina Central (9-2) vs. Grambling State (11-1)

The only game Grambling State has dropped all season was against Arizona in a respectful 31-21 setback. Grambling State won their SWAC games this season by an average of nearly 32 PPG and were dominant. North Carolina Central was also undefeated in FCS play with their only losses coming against Duke and Western Michigan. Last season we would have seen Ryan Smith at cornerback for North Carolina Central and we had him as a cornerback to look out for and he was selected in the 4th round by Tampa Bay. We will take Grambling State here to open the Bowl game slate with quarterback DeVante Kincade leading the way.

Prediction: Grambling State 37 North Carolina Central 28

Final: Grambling State 10 North Carolina Central 9  (DJ's Record 1-0)

Prospects to Watch:

North Carolina Central

Quentin Atkinson - WR Sr.  UFA

JaQuan Smith  - DT Jr.  UFA

Grambling State

Martez Carter - RB Jr. UFA

DeVante Kincade - QB Jr. UFA

Dec. 17th at 2:00 PM - Gildan New Mexico Bowl

Texas San-Antonio (6-6) vs. New Mexico (8-4)

The Roadrunners of UTSA gave a few teams fits this season and they are definately a program on the rise. How do you pick against New Mexico playing at home with the top running attack in the nation? Answer is you don't.

Prediction: New Mexico 40 UTSA 27

Final: New Mexico 23 UTSA 20  (DJ's Record 2-0)

Prospects to Watch:

UTSA

Jarveon Williams - RB Jr.  UFA

Marcus Davenport - DE Jr.  UFA

New Mexico

Dakota Cox - LB Sr. UFA

Teriyon Gipson - RB Sr. UFA

Dec. 17th at 3:30 PM - Las Vegas Bowl

Houston (9-3) vs. San Diego State (10-3)

Last years matchup between Utah and BYU was a great game and on paper this looks to be as intriguing. Houston was a disappointment this season but still scored some huge victories. Just not sure how Houston responds without a true head coach in place. San Diego State won the Mountain West and Donnell Pumphrey goes out on top.

Prediction: San Diego State 27 Houston 20

Final: San Diego State 36 Houston 10  (DJ's Record 3-0)

Prospects to Watch:

San Diego State

Nico Siragusa  - OG Sr.  2nd/3rd Round

Donnell Pumphrey - RB Sr. 3rd Round

Houston

Steven Taylor - OLB Sr. 3rd/4th Round

Greg Ward - RB/WR Sr. 6th Round

Dec. 17th at 5:30 PM - Raycom Media Camellia Bowl

Appalachian State (9-3) vs. Toledo (9-3)

Appalachian State won on a field goal in the closing seconds over Ohio in this game just a year ago. Both defenses here are among the nations best and are overlooked. This will be a tough matchup but the Mountaineers make it two in a row.

Prediction: Appalachian State 24 Toledo 18

Final: Appalachian State 31 Houston 10  (DJ's Record 4-0)

Prospects to Watch:

Appalachian State

Barrett Burns - TE Sr. 5th/6th Round

Marcus Cox - RB Sr. 7th Round

Toledo

Kareem Hunt - RB Sr. 4th/5th Round

Treyvon Hester - DT Sr. 6th Round

Dec. 17th at 7:00 PM - AutoNation Cure Bowl

Arkansas State (7-5) vs. UCF (6-6)

This game could be one of the best defensive games we see on the slate as both will prevail against the opposing offense. We are giving this to UCF with a near home field advantage in Orlando.

Prediction: UCF 17 Arkansas State 13

Final: Arkansas State 31 UCF 13  (DJ's Record 4-1)

Prospects to Watch:

Arkansas State

JaVon Rolland-Jones - LB Jr.  4th Round

Jemar Clark - OT Sr.  7th Round/UFA

UCF

Drico Johnson - S Sr. 7th Round/UFA

TreQuan Smith - WR Soph. 3rd Round

Dec. 17th at 9:00 PM - R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl

Southern Miss (6-6) vs. Louisiana-Lafayette (6-6)

A good old-fashioned swamp battle in the bayou here with some local teams. Southern Miss wins the game behind a superior offense although the best offensive prospect in this game will be Louisiana-Lafayette running back Elijah McGuire who is a dark horse in the upcoming draft.

Prediction: Southern Miss 45 Louisiana-Lafayette 20

Final: Southern Miss 28 Louisiana-Lafayette 21  (DJ's Record 5-1)

Prospects to Watch:

Southern Miss

Cameron Tom  - C Sr. 5th Round

Nick Mullens - QB Sr. 7th Round

Louisiana-Lafayette

Elijah McGuire - RB Sr. 4th Round

Tracy Walker - S Jr. UFA

Dec. 19th at 2:30 PM - Miami Beach Bowl

Central Michigan (6-6) vs. Tulsa (9-3)

Tulsa only suffered three losses this season to Houston, Navy and Ohio State. Tulsa dropped the game to Houston by a touchdown and only lost by two points against Navy while hanging with Ohio State for one half. Tulsa is a great team that got overshadowed this season while Central Michigan faded. The Central Michigan highlight would have been the early upset of Oklahoma State on the lateral which technically should not have happened. Tulsa wins this game big.

Prediction: Tulsa 44 Central Michigan 21

Final: Tulsa 55 Central Michigan 10  (DJ's Record 6-1)

Prospects to Watch:

Central Michigan

Cooper Rush - QB Sr. 5th Round

Tony Annese - S Sr. 5th Round

Tulsa

Jordan Mitchell - S Jr. 6th Round

James Flanders - RB Sr. 7th Round

Dec. 20th at 7:00 PM - Boca Raton Bowl

Memphis (8-4) vs. Western Kentucky (10-3)

On paper this looks like a win for Western Kentucky as they continue to get overlooked as a program but now coach Jeff Brohm is on the move it leaves Western Kentucky in limbo. This tips the scales in favor of Memphis, a team that can score points as well (39.5 PPG).

Prediction: Memphis 51 Western Kentucky 37

Final: Western Kentucky 51 Memphis 31  (DJ's Record 6-2)

Prospects to Watch:

Memphis

Jake Elliott - K Sr. 7th Round

Genard Avery - LB Jr. 5th/6th Round

Western Kentucky

Taywan Taylor - WR Sr. 6th Round

Forrest Lamb - OG Sr. 7th Round

Dec. 21st at 9:00 PM - San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl

BYU (8-4) vs. Wyoming (8-5)

Wyoming faded down the stretch and they have suffered through some key injuries on defense. Speaking of defense, BYU does not get enough credit and are allowing under 20 PPG as a unit.

Prediction: BYU 23 Wyoming 13

Final: BYU 24 Wyoming 21  (DJ's Record 7-2)

Prospects to Watch:

BYU

Kai Nacua - S Sr. 4th/5th Round

Harvey Langi - LB Sr. 6th Round

Wyoming

Andrew Wingard - S Soph. 2nd/3rd Round

Brian Hill - RB Jr. 5th/6th Round

Dec. 22nd at 7:00 PM - Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

Idaho (8-4) vs. Colorado State (7-5)

Not looking for a hometown advantage here as Colorado State was an improved team late and is set up to be competitive for the next few years. Look for the Rams in this one and along the offensive line.

Prediction: Colorado State 23 Idaho 14

Final: Idaho 61 Colorado State 50  (DJ's Record 7-3)

Prospects to Watch:

Idaho

Austin Rehkow - P Sr. 7th Round

Zach Cable - DE Jr. UFA

Colorado State

Nick Stevens - QB Jr. 6th/7th Round

Kelvin Davis - LB Sr. 6th/7th Round

Dec. 23rd at 1:00 PM - Popeyes Bahamas Bowl

Eastern Michigan (7-5) vs. Old Dominion (9-3)

Just a few seasons ago Old Dominion was making the move from the I-AA ranks and now they are a top tier team in Conference USA. Eastern Michigan won a surprising seven games and we go with them here in a bit of an upset.

Prediction: Eastern Michigan 31 Old Dominion 28

Final: Old Dominion 24 Eastern Michigan 20  (DJ's Record 7-4)

Prospects to Watch:

Eastern Michigan

Pat O'Connor - DE Sr. UFA

Jeremiah Harris - DE Soph. UFA

Old Dominion

Ray Lawry - RB Jr. 7th Round/UFA

Zach Pascal - WR Sr. UFA

Dec. 23rd at 4:30 PM - Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl

Louisiana Tech (8-5) vs. Navy (9-4)

Navy was challenging for a spot in a BCS game before the season finale loss against Temple in the AAC title game. Not only did Navy lose but they got beat down physically and have been devastated by the injury bug. Louisiana Tech catches Navy at just the right time with their own high octane offense. the passing game beats the running game in this bowl offering.

Prediction: Louisiana Tech 33 Navy 26

Final: Louisiana Tech 48 Navy 45   (DJ's Record 8-4)

Prospects to Watch:

Louisiana Tech

Xavier Woods - S Sr. 4th Round

Carlos Henderson - WR Jr. 4th Round

Navy

Micah Thomas - LB Jr. UFA

Jamir Tillman - WR Sr. UFA

Dec. 23rd at 8:00 PM - Dollar General Bowl

Ohio (8-5) vs. Troy (9-3)

This has to be one of the closest games on paper to analyze. I literally went back and forth on this game and I would have had more assurance flipping a coin or throwing darts. I juggled the coaching experience of Frank Solich for Ohio against the youthful Troy team that will be heard from again next year. Troy in a nailbiter.

Prediction: Troy 24 Ohio 23

Final: Troy 28 Ohio 23  (DJ's Record 9-4)

Prospects to Watch:

Ohio

Tarell Basham - DE Sr. 5th Round

Quentin Poling - LB Jr. 4th Round

Troy

Brandon Silvers - QB Jr. UFA

Antonio Garcia - OT Sr. UFA

Dec. 24th at 8:00 PM - Hawaii Bowl

Hawaii (6-7) vs. Middle Tennessee (8-4)

Even with quarterback Brent Stockstill on the shelf and Hawaii playing a home game we like the Blue Raiders. Middle Tennessee State is a team that is often overlooked and well coached on both sides of the football. It's good to see Hawaii back in bowl action and at least competitive, something we have been missing for the last few seasons.

Prediction: Middle Tennessee 44 Hawaii 35

Final: Hawaii 52 Middle Tennessee 35  (DJ's Record 9-5)

Prospects to Watch:

Hawaii

Jahlani Tavai - LB Soph. 5th Round

John Waa - C Jr. UFA

Middle Tennessee

Jeremy Cutrer - CB Sr. 7th Round

Richie James - WR Soph. 7th Round

Dec. 26th at 11:00 AM - St. Peterburg Bowl

Mississippi State (5-7) vs. Miami (OH) (6-6)

Hats off to Miami (OH) who reeled off six straight victories to become bowl eligible. Playing an SEC team is a little than a team from the MAC. Factor in that the redhawks are a little banged up coming into this game and we see the Bulldogs emerging victorious behind a big game from quarterback Nick Fitzgerald.

Prediction: Mississippi State 33 Miami (OH) 20

Final:  Mississippi State 17 Miami (OH) 16  (DJ's Record 10-5)

Prospects to Watch:

Mississippi State

Martinas Rankin - OT Jr. 3rd Round

Brandon Bryant - S Soph. 2nd Round

Miami (Ohio)

Heath Harding - CB Jr. 4th Round

Collin Buchanan - OT Sr. 7th Round/UFA

Dec. 26th at 2:30 PM - Quick Lane Bowl

Maryland (6-6) vs. Boston College (6-6)

A pair of 6-6 teams that were essentially doormats in their respective conferences. It all comes down to which Boston College Bowl team shows up. From 2000-2007 Boston College made it to 8 straight Bowl games and won them all. From 2008-2014 they have been to five and lost them all. Boston College starts a new streak and gets the best of the Terrapins.

Prediction: Boston College 28 Maryland 21

Final: Boston College 36 Maryland 30  (DJ's Record 11-5)

Prospects to Watch:

Maryland

Brendan Moore - C Soph. 6th Round

Jessie Aniebonam - DE Jr. 6th Round

Boston College

Harold Landry - DE/OLB Jr. 2nd/3rd Round

Matt Milano - LB. Sr. 5th Round

Dec. 26th at 5:00 PM - Camping World Independence Bowl

NC State (6-6) vs. Vanderbilt (6-6)

Do you think we are ging to pick against the best defender in FBS this season, Vanderbilt's Zach Cunningham? There is a ton of individual talent for NC State but this will be a low scoring defensive struggle and Vanderbilt comes out on the winning side.

Prediction: Vanderbilt 20 NC State 13

Final: NC State 41 Vanderbilt 17   (DJ's Record 11-6)

Prospects to Watch:

NC State

Bradley Chubb - DE Jr. 2nd/3rd Round

Matthew Dayes - RB Sr. 5th Round

Vanderbilt

Zach Cunningham - LB Sr. 1st Round

Emmanuel Smith - S Jr. 3rd/4th Round

Dec. 27th at 12:00 PM - Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl

Army (7-6) vs. North Texas (5-7)

These teams already played one another and North Texas scored a 35-18 victory. We see the same thing happening again only with the momentum of Army finally ending their drought against Navy it will be a little closer.

Prediction: North Texas 32 Army 22

Final: Army 38 North Texas 31 (OT)  (DJ's Record 11-7)

Prospects to Watch:

Army

Andrew King - ILB  Sr. UFA

Andy Davidson - FB Soph. 7th Round/UFA

North Texas

Kishawn McClain - S Jr. UFA

Roderick Young - DT Soph. UFA

Dec. 27th at 3:30 PM - Military Bowl Presented by Northrup Grumman

Temple (10-3) vs. Wake Forest (6-6)

Temple has been red hot coming down the stretch as they are proving last year was no fluke. Temple remains a program on the rise and is here to stay. Wake Forest showcased a fabulous defense throughout much of the season but struggled down the stretch. How much Temple wins by may be predicated to whether they have access to the Wake Forest plays or not (sorry couldn't resist).

Prediction: Temple 27 Wake Forest 9

Final: Wake Forest 34 Temple 26  (DJ's Record 11-8)

Prospects to Watch:

Temple

Dion Dawkins - OT Sr. 2nd/3rd Round

Hasson  Reddick - OLB Sr. 3rd/4th Round

Wake Forest

Marquel Lee - ILB Sr. 5th Round

Duke Ejiofor - DE Jr. 4th Round

Dec. 27th at 7:00 PM - National Funding Holiday Bowl

Washington State (8-4) vs. Minnesota (8-4)

After the flap involving the Minnesota players and whether they would or would not play for this bowl game, it will inspire the Gophers. Washington State is a little downtrodden after a respectable season but suddenyl the Golden Gophers have a purpose.

Prediction: Minnesota 24 Washington State 20

Final: Minnesota 17 Washington State 12   (DJ's Record 12-8)

Prospects to Watch:

Washington State

Luke Falk - QB Jr. 3rd/4th Round

Hercules Mataafa - OLB Soph. 4th Round

Minnesota

Jonah Pirsig - OT Sr. 6th Round

Jalen Myrick - CB Sr. 7th Round

Dec. 27th at 10:15 PM - Motel 6 Cactus Bowl

Boise State (10-2) vs. Baylor (6-6)

Baylor has struggled without Seth Russell at quarterback again and they limped down the stretch. At one time it looked like Boise State would have another BCS bowl birth but they put up a solid 10-win season which will move to 11 after this game.

Prediction: Boise State 37 Baylor 24

Final: Baylor 21 Boise State 12   (DJ's Record 12-9)

Prospects to Watch:

Boise State

Jeremy McNichols - RB Jr. 4th Round

David Moa - DE Soph. 4th Round

Baylor

Orion Stewart - S Sr. 5th/6th Round

Rammi Hammad - OG Jr. 5th Round

Dec. 28th at 2:00 PM - New Era Pinstripe Bowl

Pittsburgh (8-4) vs. Northwestern (6-6)

Pitt has a nasty habit of playing down to their compitition but at 8-4 they are strong with a pair of wins over top 5 programs (Clemson and Penn State). Northwestern failed to live up to the hype this season. The best bet for Northwestern is to try and control the clock and keep the ball out of the hands of Nathan Peterman and James Conner.

Prediction: Pittsburgh 31 Northwestern 17

Final: Northwestern 31 Pittsburgh 24 (DJ's Record 12-10)

Prospects to Watch:

Pittsburgh

Adam Bisnowaty - OT Sr. 2nd/3rd Round

Dorian Johnson - OG Sr. 2nd Round

Northwestern

Anthony Walker - ILB Jr. 3rd Round

Godwin Igwebuike - S Jr. 3rd/4th Round

Dec. 28th at 5:30 PM - Russell Athletic Bowl

West Virginia (10-2) vs. Miami (8-4)

Miami has been about as up and down as a team could be while West Vriginia exceeded expectations and rewarded their coach with a huge contract extension. We are going for the upset here with the Hurricanes winning what might be one of the better bowl matchups on the docket.

Prediction: Miami 34 West Virginia 30

Final: Miami 31 West Virginia 14 (DJ's Record 13-10)

Prospects to Watch:

West Virginia

Tyler Orlosky - C Sr. 4th Round

Rasul Douglas - CB Sr. 4th/5th Round

Miami

Brad Kaaya - QB Jr. 2nd Round

David Njoku - TE Soph. 1st/2nd Round

Dec. 28th at 8:30 PM - Foster Farms Bowl

Indiana (6-6) vs. Utah (8-4)

Sometimes it's hard to get teams up for bowl games, but not the case for Utah or coach Kyle Whittingham who owns a 9-1 career bowl record. Great matchup here with a tough Utes defense against a top flight offense at indiana...defense wins nearly every time.

Prediction: Utah 28 Indiana 27

Final: Utah 26 Indiana 24  (DJ's Record 14-10)

Prospects to Watch:

Indiana

Dan Feeney - OG Sr. 1st/2nd Round

Jonathan Crawford - S Soph. 6th Round

Utah

Lowell Lotulelei - DT Jr. 2nd Round

Marcus Williams - S Jr. 2nd Round

Dec. 28th at 9:00 PM - ADVOCare V100 Texas Bowl

Texas A&M (8-4) vs. Kansas State (8-4)

The Aggies are a team that fell short of expectations when they were around the top five at midseason. This feels like a game where they will have a hard time getting up and rising to the occasion. Kansas State ended hot and will keep things going. Good game here as this used to be a conference game before Texas A&M made the switch to the SEC.

Prediction: Kansas State 41 Texas A&M 35

Final: Kansas State 33 Texas A&M 28  (DJ's Record 15-10)

Prospects to Watch:

Texas A&M

Myles Garrett - DE Jr. 1st Round (Potentially the top pick in the draft)

Justin Evans - S Sr. 2nd/3rd Round

Kansas State

Jordan Willis - OLB Sr. 4th/5th Round

Dalton Risner - C Soph. 3rd Round

Dec. 29th at 2:00 PM - Birmingham Bowl

South Florida (10-2) vs. South Carolina (6-6)

If you have not seen a South Florida game this season then watch this and behold the mastery of Quinton Flowers. Flowers spent time on our Heisman ballot as he was a "poor man's Lamar Jackson". South Florida may be the team to watch next year and an early favorite to get a BCS bid outside the power 5. South Carolina plays in the tough SEC but their defense has long lapses.

Prediction: South Florida 49 South Carolina 20

Final: South Florida 46 South Carolina 39  OT (DJ's Record 16-10)

Prospects to Watch:

South Florida

Marlon Mack - RB Jr. 4th Round

Deatrick Nichols - CB 3rd Round

South Carolina

Darius English - OLB Sr. 5th/6th Round

Elliot Fry - K Sr. 7th Round/UFA

Dec. 29th at 5:30 PM - Belk Bowl

Arkansas (7-5) vs. Virginia Tech (9-4)

We always see a few bowl games that seem to scream "shoot out" and this is one. Will go with Virginia Tech but this is a game that could come down to who has the ball last.

Prediction: Virginia Tech 45 Arkansas 44

Final: Virginia Tech 35 Arkansas 24 (DJ's Record 17-10)

Prospects to Watch:

Arkansas

Dan Skipper - OT Sr. 3rd/4th Round

Frank Ragnow -C Jr. 4th Round

Virginia Tech

Bucky Hodges - TE Jr. 1st/2nd Round

Isaiah Ford - WR Jr. 2nd Round

Dec. 29th at 9:00 PM - Valero Alamo Bowl

Oklahoma State (9-3) vs. Colorado (10-3)

Another highly competitive game with a pair of clubs that got within a game of winning their respective conferences. Colorado has one of the most underrated secondaries in the country and Oklahoma State may have the most pro ready quarterback for this draft (if he declares) in Mason Rudolph.

Prediction: Colorado 34 Oklahoma State 32

Final: Oklahoma State 38 Colorado 8 (DJ's Record 17-11)

Prospects to Watch:

Oklahoma State

Mason Rudolph - QB Jr. 3rd Round

Vincent Taylor - DT Jr. 2nd/3rd Round

Colorado

Chidobe Awuzie - CB Sr. 2nd Round

Tedric Thompson - S Sr. 4th/5th Round

Dec. 30th at 12:00 PM - AutoZone Liberty Bowl

Georgia (7-5) vs. TCU (6-6)

Kirby Smart wants to end his inaugural season in Georgia with a bowl game victory. TCU has been erratic and at times has looked flat lost on defense. We like the Bulldogs in what could be a sneaky good game.

Prediction: Georgia 30 TCU 20

Final: Georgia 31 TCU 23  (DJ's Record 18-11)

Prospects to Watch:

Georgia

Nick Chubb - RB Jr. 3rd/4th Round

Trentton Thompson - DT Soph. 3rd Round

TCU

Josh Carraway - DE/LB Sr. 3rd/4th Round

Markell Simmons - S Soph. 4th/5th Round

Dec. 30th at 2:00 PM - Hyundai Sun Bowl

Stanford (9-3) vs. North Carolina (8-4)

Both teams have found their groove offensivly but Stanford has the ability to come up with a defensive stand where North Carolina has been suseptible to the run. Christian McCaffrey has already announced he will be going pro and will want to go out on a high note. 200 yards from McCaffrey on the ground seems like an absolute.

Update: McCaffrey has announced he will not play to concentrate on NFL Draft. That changes this prediction, we have seen what Stanford is without McCaffrey and it wasn't pretty.

Prediction: North Carolina 31 Stanford 20

Final: Stanford 25 North Carolina 23  (DJ's Record 18-12)

Prospects to Watch:

Stanford

Christian McCaffrey - RB Jr. 1st/2nd Round

Solomon Thomas - DE Soph. 2nd Round

North Carolina

Mitch Trubinsky - QB Jr. 1st Round

Donnie Miles - S Jr. 3rd Round

Dec. 30th at 3:30 PM - Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl

Nebraska (9-3) vs. Tennessee (8-4)

Nebraska has just been hit hard with the injury bug but this is still a successful season for coach Mike Riley. Tennessee had such high expectations and may seem a  little on the down side entering this game. Nebraska has more desire to play but Tennessee has the healthier talent.

Prediction: Tennessee 32 Nebraska 16

Final: Tennessee 38 Nebraska 24  (DJ's Record 19-12)

Prospects to Watch:

Nebraska

Nate Gerry - S Sr. 4th/5th Round

Tanner Farmer - OG Soph. 3rd Round

Tennessee

Derek Barnett - DE Jr. 1st Round

Cameron Sutton - CB Sr. 2nd/3rd Round

Dec. 30th at 5:30 PM - NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl

South Alabama (6-6) vs. Air Force (9-3)

Air Force comes in on a hot streak while South Alabama has a few big victories but struggled in conference play going just 2-6 in the Sun Belt. We were a little surprised South Alabama got a bowl bid with their poor conference record.

Prediction: Air Force 40 South Alabama 23

Final: Air Force 45 South Alabama 21  (DJ's Record 20-12)

Prospects to Watch:

South Alabama

Jeremy Reaves - CB Jr. 7th Round

Xavier Johnson- RB Jr. UFA

Air Force

Weston Steelhammer - S Sr. 5th Round

Jalen Robinette - WR Sr. 7th Round/UFA

Dec. 30th at 8:00 PM - Capital One Orange Bowl

Michigan (10-2) vs. Florida State (9-3)

Michigan will do everything in their power to eliminate Dalvin Cook as a threat in this game and make the Seminoles one-dimensional. This may be more of a defensive struggle than many realize but Michigan finds a way to get the victory.

Prediction: Michigan 20 Florida State 17

Final: Florida State 33 Michigan 32  (DJ's Record 20-13)

Prospects to Watch:

Michigan

Jabrill Peppers - S/LB Soph. 1st Round

Jake Butt - TE Sr. 1st/2nd Round

Florida State

Tavarus McFadden - CB Soph. 1st Round

Dalvin Cook - RB Jr. 1st Round

Dec. 31st at 11:00 AM - Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl

LSU (7-4) vs. Louisville (9-3)

This game seems to be more about who is not participating rather than who is. Louisviile offensive coordinator Lonnie Galloway has been suspended for his part in the Wake Forest play fiasco and LSU running back Leonard Fournette has stated he will not play opting to focus on the NFL Draft. This makes this a difficult game to prognosticate but we feel LSU will hold down Heisman winner Lamar Jackson just enough for the win.

Prediction: LSU 24 Louisville 23

Final: LSU 29 Louisville 9  (DJ's Record 21-13)

Prospects to Watch:

LSU

Leonard Fournette - RB Jr. 1st Round

TreDavious White - CB Sr. 2nd Round

Louisville

Lamar Jackson - QB Soph. 1st Round

Devonte Fields DE/OLB Sr. 3rd Round

Dec. 31st at 11:00 AM - TaxSlayer Bowl

Georgia Tech (8-4) vs. Kentucky (7-5)

An evenly matched game here with a pair of southern programs that both look like they will be on the rise in coming years. Kentucky is a little more battle tested than Georgia Tech as Kentucky will stack the line and make Georgia Tech beat them through the air. We don't see that happening.

Prediction: Kentucky 27 Georgia Tech 24

Final: Georgia Tech 33 Kentucky 18  (DJ's Record 21-14)

Prospects to Watch:

Georgia Tech

A.J. Gray - S Soph. 5th Round

Dec. 31st at 3:00 PM - College Football Playoff Semi-Final Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl

Washington (12-1) vs. Alabama (13-0)

Alabama has yet to give us pause to pick against them. While Washington seems outmatched for this game we believe the committee got things right and their selection into the playoff was justified. This game is filled with prospects, it is more like a College All-Star game.

Prediction: Alabama 44 Washington 24

Final: Alabama 24 Washington 7  (DJ's Record 22-14)

Prospects to Watch:

Washington

Dec. 31st at 7:00 PM - College Football Playoff Semi-Final Goodyear PlayStation Fiesta Bowl

Ohio State (11-1) vs. Clemson (12-1)

On paper this is a very even matchup with a slight edge overall going to Ohio State. Yet, Clemson finds a way to always escape (outside of the Pittsburgh game) and the Deshaun Watson factor gives Clemson gives them the edge. We anticipate a rematch of last years final will be on tap.

Prediction: Clemson 44 Ohio State 42

Final: Clemson 31 Ohio State 0  (DJ's Record 23-14)

Prospects to Watch:

Ohio State

Malik Hooker - S Soph. 1st Round

Jan. 2nd at 1:00 PM - Outback Bowl

Florida (8-4) vs. Iowa (8-4)

Iowa came on at the end of the season scoring the victory over Michigan signaled the rise back being one of the elite teams to deal with. Florida was once again the SEC Title Game scarifical lamb to Alabama with tremendous defensive talent and an unbalanced offensive attack.

Prediction: Iowa 23 Florida 17

Final: Florida 30 Iowa 3  (DJ's Record 23-15)

Prospects to Watch:

Florida

Teez Tabor - CB Jr. 1st Round

Jarrad Davis - OLB Sr. 2nd Round

Iowa

Jan. 2nd at 1:00 PM - Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic

Western Michigan (13-0) vs. Wisconsin (10-3)

Western Michigan has done everything right this season and Wisconsin is the toughest team they have faced. We feel this will be a loss for the Broncos but a victory would not be a total shock. Wisconsin may have a bit of a hangover and if they are not up to par Western Michigan could pounce early.

Prediction: Wisconsin 31 Western Michigan 27

Final: Wisconsin 24 Western Michigan 16  (DJ's Record 24-15)

Prospects to Watch:

Western Michigan

Corey Davis - WR Sr. 1st/2nd Round

Tyler Moton - OT Sr. 3rd Round

Wisconsin

Ryan Ramczyk - OT Jr. 1st/2nd Round

T.J. Edwards - ILB Soph. 2nd Round

Jan. 2nd at 5:00 PM - Northwestern Mutual Rose Bowl

USC (9-3) vs. Penn State (11-2)

Was Penn State robbed by keeping them outside the College Football Playoff? We are split as we feel the best four teams were included but the selection committee seemed to contradict themselves as they stressed the importance of Conference Titles all year long. Right now we think USC would be the best matchup of any team against Alabama but three losses made it impossible for a birth as one of the four teams in the Playoff.

Prediction: USC 35 Penn State 27

Final: USC 52 Penn State 49  (DJ's Record 25-15)

Prospects to Watch:

USC

Cameron Smith - ILB Soph. 1st Round

Adoree Jackson - CB Jr. 1st Round

Penn State

Saquon Barkley  - RB Soph. 2nd/3rd Round

Garrett Sickels - DE Jr. 3rd/4th Round

Jan. 2nd at 8:30 PM - Allstate Sugar Bowl

Auburn (8-4) vs. Oklahoma (10-2)

Oklahoma has a history of not showing up in bowl games but here Auburn is just beat up with countless injuries. Oklahoma runs it up against the Tigers as they ready for another season with Baker Mayfield under center.

Prediction: Oklahoma 51 Auburn 27

Final: Oklahoma 35 Auburn 19  (DJ's Record 26-15)

Prospects to Watch:

Auburn

Carl Lawson -  DE/OLB Sr. 2nd Round

Braden Smith - OG Jr. 2nd Round

Oklahoma

Orlando Brown - OT Soph. 1st Round

Mark Andrews - TE Soph. 1st/2nd Round

Jan. 9th at 8:00 PM - College Football Playoff National Championship Game

Alabama (14-0) vs. Clemson (13-1)

With all of the controversies surrounding who should and who shouldn't have made the playoffs, we are left with the two best teams in college football facing off in a rematch for the title. You have to wonder how much the departure of Lane Kiffin and the "mutual" agreement to step down before the title game, will influence the offensive game plan plan. Clemson took Alabama to the limit a season ago and the Crimson Tide didn't have to worry about stud receiver Mike Williams. Will the freshman Jalen Hurts make a crucial mistake in the big game? I see Hurts as more of a Cardale Jones here, he is playing better every week. My head tells me Clemson can do it but my heart says Alabama and their defense has one stand or one big pick six left in them to turn the "Tide" in this one. A Clemson win would not shock me as more and more people seem to be betting on Deshaun Watson in this one and the ACC has been the best of the power conferences in the bowls this season.

Prediction: Alabama 38 Clemson 37

Final:
