Heisman Watch: Week 2

by DJ Boyer on Sep. 9, 2014

---From DraftSite's Blog---

1. Marcus Mariota – QB Oregon: 31-48 64.6% 585 yards 6 touchdowns 0 interceptions 15 carries 85 yards 7.2 YPC 1 TD rushing LW #1

The win over Michigan State with 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions has Mariota now at the top of the list and there is no disputing that.

2. Todd Gurley – RB Georgia: 15 carries 198 yards 3 TD’s and a 100-yard kickoff return TD. LW #2

Gurley had a week off to rest up for South Carolina and make his case for the coveted hardware.

3. Jameis Winston – QB Florida State: 47-67 626 yards 70.1% 3 TD 2 INT 1 rushing TD. LW #4

Has so many weapons around him at his disposal that he could easily repeat as the Heisman winner.

4. Kenny Hill – QB Texas A&M: 61-86 794 yards 70.9% 7 TD 0 INT. LW #6

Has been unflappable as a freshman at such a high profile school and following a Heisman Trophy winner.

5. Ameer Abdullah – RB Nebraska: 37 carries 286 yards 2 TD 4 Catches 105 yards 1 TD. LW #3

Wasn’t a monster statistical game against McNeese State but he scored the winning touchdown when his team needed him most.

6. Everett Golson – QB Notre Dame: 37-56 521 yards 66.1% 5 TD 0 INT 3 rushing TD. LW NR

Some questioned why I did have him on the list after week 1. After shutting out Michigan there was no keeping him off a second week.

7. Amari Cooper – WR Alabama: 25 catches 319 yards 1 TD. LW #8

A little different not seeing an Alabama running back or quarterback leading the way for Heisman consideration. Cooper has been everything Alabama has wanted and more after a bit of a down sophomore campaign.

8. D.J. Foster – RB Arizona State: 34 carries catches 363 yards 4 TD 10.7 YPC 7 catches 80 yards. LW NR

Arizona State likes where they sit in the PAC-12. With so much focus on Stanford, USC and Oregon they are flying under the radar and playing very well.

9. Sean Mannion – QB Oregon State: 52-82 628 yards 63.4% 4 TD 1 INT. LW NR

To many Mannion is the best senior quarterback available in the 2015 Draft and he has proved losing Brandin Cooks was not the end of the world for this offense.

10. James Conner – RB Pittsburgh: 49 carries 366 yards 5 TD 7.6 YPC. LW NR

A bruising 250 pound runner bringing back the old days of Craig “Ironhead” Heyward at Pittsburgh.

Honorable Mention: Shane Carden, QB, East Carolina ; Rakeem Cato, QB, Marshall; Rashad Greene, WR, Florida State; Cameron Artis-Payne, RB, Auburn.
