Heisman Watch: Week 3

by DJ Boyer on Sep. 16, 2014

Heisman Watch: Week 3

1. Marcus Mariota – QB Oregon: 50-71 70.4% 806 yards 8 touchdowns 0 interceptions 20 carries 156 yards 7.9 YPC 3 TD rushing LW #1
There should be no question Mariota is leading the way and he is distancing himself from the competition.

2. Kenny Hill – QB Texas A&M: 81-117 69.2% 1094 yards 11 TD 0 INT. LW #4
Kenny “The Thrill” Hill is slowly moving up the charts.

3. Jameis Winston – QB Florida State: 47-67 626 yards 70.1% 3 TD 2 INT 1 rushing TD. LW #3
Last year Winston only threw for 400 yards in 1 game…it was on the road against Clemson, the opponent for Winston this week as he hopes to kickstart his Heisman campaign.

4. D.J. Foster – RB Arizona State: 54 carries catches 510 yards 5 TD 9.4 YPC 11 catches 131 yards 1 TD. LW #8
Foster is on pace for 2,000 yards rushing and 25 TD’s rushing….Heisman stats for sure.

5. Todd Gurley – RB Georgia: 35 carries 329 yards 9.4 YPC 4 TD’s and a 100-yard kickoff return TD. LW #2
Even in defeat Gurley showed his moxy and worthiness of being in Heisman contention.

6. Ameer Abdullah – RB Nebraska: 57 carries 396 yards 6.9 YPC 3 TD 4 Catches 105 yards 1 TD. LW #5
A big performance against Miami is needed to ensure Abdullah stays in the conversation.

7. Everett Golson – QB Notre Dame: 62-96 521 yards 64.6% 7 TD 0 INT 29 carries 82 yards 4 rushing TD LW #6
Great start out of the gate for Notre Dame shows how important he is to this team and why the Irish struggled last season was he was ineligible to play.

8. James Conner – RB Pittsburgh: 81 carries 544 yards 8 TD 6.7 YPC. LW #10
8 touchdowns in three games is hard to ignore. If Conner gets multiple touchdowns against a tough Iowa defensive line we could see his stock skyrocket.

9. Amari Cooper – WR Alabama: 33 catches 454 yards 2 TD. LW #7
Has had at least 130 yards receiving in each of his three games this season so saying Cooper is vital to the passing game is a gross understatement.

10. Taysom Hill – QB BYU: 67-98 689 yards 68.4% 4 TD 3 INT 62 carries 356 yards 5.7 YPC 6 rushing TD. LW NR
If BYU gets through Virginia and Utah State with a 5-0 mark then Hill will be considered a legitimate candidate.

Honorable Mention: Shane Carden, QB, East Carolina; Rakeem Cato, QB, Marshall; Rashad Greene, WR, Florida State; Cameron Artis-Payne, RB, Auburn; Sean Mannion, QB, Oregon State.
