Top 2 Games to Watch This Weekend

Introduction: the college football is narrowing down and over the next fews weeks could determine which four teams make the college playoffs. Currently; the APP voting has LSU leading the way with the #1 spot, followed by Alabama at #2, Ohio State sitting at #3 and Clemson finishing out the top 4. There will two games that I will be very interested in watching; That could impact who makes or doesn't make the playoffs.

1. LSU at Alabama:  It's not often we get to see the top 2 teams in the nation square off against each other this late in the season, but when it happens it's a must see game to watch. An SEC clash between two powerhouses as both teams are coming off bye weeks. LSU had a tough time in their last game against the Auburn Tigers with a nail biting win 23-20. The Crimson Tide had a much easier opponent as they manhandled Arkansas 48-7. Alabama has won 8 of the last 10 meetings againts LSU, however; the Tigers have been a very tough team on the road. Mac Jones has been handling the quarterback duties over the last couple of games for Alabama, however; it's being reported that quarterback Tua Tagaovailoa is still an uncertainty regarding his playing status, but we could learn more after Wednesday when Tagovailoa is scheduled to return. Meanwhile; LSU quarterback is healthy and playing his best football in his college career, but will be tested against a determined Alabama defense. A healthy Tagovailoa would give Alabama a better chance against a LSU team that is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. The winner of this game will have a big advantage in securing a playoff spot; although it's set in stone. However; the loser might have a problem staying in the top 4; especially if they lose by a wide margin and the other teams continuing to win.

2. Penn State at Minnesota: The Penn Stats Nittany Lions are currently ranked #5 in the polls and have a perfect record at 8-0. They will be traveling north to play the Minnesota Golden Gophers that are also undefeated (8-0) and sitting at #13, hoping to crack the top 10. Penn State is coming off a bye week and defeated Michigan State 28-7 in their last game. Minnesota has been on a roll over the last four weeks by steam rolling over their opponents; most recently Maryland 52-10. In fact, over their last four games, Minnesota is outscoring their opponent by 32 points per game. Penn State in contrast have been winning their games by a much smaller margin (3 in their last 6 by 7 points or less). The weather forecast is calling for possibly rain/snow with temperatures in the mid 30's; which could affect both teams passing game. If so, the Nittany Lions could have an edge as they are averaging 170.1 yards per game rushing to the Golden Gophers 204.5 yards per game rushing. However; the deciding factor could be each team's defense and their ability to stop the run as the NIttany Lions have been keeping team's rushing totals at 68.4 yards per game; compared to the Golden Gophers 117.4 yards per game.

Final Thoughts:  This two games will be on my playlist this coming Saturday with Penn State at Minnesota starting at 12noon, followed by the LSU/Alabama game at 3:30. Four teams undefeated to the start the day and we'll have only two teams remaining undefeated by the end of the day. Who will I be rooting for? well, I'll keep that a secret for now. I'm just going to enjoy an afternoon of great college football.
